Default DDO client.exe running but not showing anything

I just downloaded the high res installer of ddo and let it install.
After all the updating and such is done it asks me log on

    So I
    Log in my account;
    select what world i want to play in;
    and click launch.

DDOclient.exe starts running (checked in processes in the windows task manager)
    but nothing happens...

    I tried a re install
I put a special allowance in my windows firewall for ddo launcher + ddo client + turbine invoker for both incoming and outgoing data.
    nothing works.

Tried to shut down my antivirus (avast free edition), nothing works still.

Last line i get from the launcher is "getting in line to connect" then it just shut itself off and starts ddoclient... wich does nothing for about 2 hours before i forceble close it by "end process"

    any help is appreciated

Do you require more information perhaps too resolve the issue?

If I am understanding correctly; the launcher loads, you can login, get in connection queue and then ddoclient loads and sits there doing nothing until you kill the process. If that is the case, try editing your DDO UserPreferences.ini (under User/Documents/Dungeons and Dragons Online) in the following manner:

    1. Locate the "[Display]" section.
    2. Under "[Display]", change "ShowIntroMovie=True" to "ShowIntroMovie=False".
    3. Save the changes.
    4. Start DDO.

For some reason, particularly with new installs, the client will fail to play the intro movie which causes it to hang indefinitely. If the ShowIntroMovie flag is already set to false, make a copy of your UserPreferences.ini and delete the original. The game will recreate it on start with default settings. There is a high probability that some display or render setting is the root cause of your issue.

Please feel free to PM me or respond in this thread with any other pertinent information and I'll see what I can do to help.

    Best of luck!

    Default Did not work.

No luck i'm afraid, still no screen.

Weird thing is that my network screener shows 0% usage of the net when the launcher disappears. No packets coming in or out.
when i login i see the packets going out and in...but when i click launch, all activity just stops :/.
My first guess was DDO is being blocked or something, but even making special rules that allow each .exe file in the DDO folder does nothing.

I used the install without happy cloud program, yet when ddo starts up, that program also runs, and it does not stop when i force dndclient.exe close.
Is happy cloud needed to play the game?

    UDP packets.

Once you are logged in, you need udp packets to be able to come and go... if you're firewall is set too tight it's probably locking out udp packets.

    Hummm....

Firstly, Happy Cloud is a background transfer application which downloads enough of the main program to begin playing the game quickly. I think it grabs the character generation and Korthos resources first. As you play, Happy Cloud will continue to download additional resources based on either immediate need or overall completeness. Happy Cloud is the replacement for Pando Media Booster with which you are probably familiar.

So, how does that help you? I suspect that Mr. Happy Cloud is still downloading the game and won't let you play until it's done. This would not be the first time such "issues" have cropped up. There has recently been a change in the DDO download area which dropped the Pando high-res full download option and forces use of the new download manager. Fortunately, you can still download, for the moment anyway, the previous version from this link.

Might I suggest that you uninstall the Happy Cloud version, download the Pando version and re-install that one. At the very least that would allow you to rule out any problems with an incomplete download. Make sure you get Happy Cloud uninstalled because I have the feeling that it's separate from the DDO uninstall much like Pando.

I know that's going to be both time and bandwidth consuming, but it may be the fastest resolution to your problem.

Once again, let me know if there is anything I can do to help out.

    Best of luck!

Good catch Flavilandile. Since 732523 mentioned exceptions being added to Windows firewall, I assumed the native client which will usually take care of packet types. If there is another firewall in the mix, that could be the problem. Also, make certain Happy Cloud is not blocked either - if you don't go the older Pando route. Sorry, but I don't know what ports it uses.

When i clicked your link i got the same installer as I already have.
Is it the same as the DDO highres version you can get on the mainpage of ddo on:

by clicking on the green download under "install, then play"?

If not i can re-download the game i guess.

The thing is,I picked the non happy cloud installer thing since i don't like P2P networks.
I don't really understand how it got to be installed on my machine in the first place.
But I especially have no clue why it starts up when I open DDO... there is nothing left to download anymore. I got the entire game in one go.

    -- Flavilandile

My firewall is just a plain old windows one, no exterior firewall is installed.
I allowed all .exe in the DDO folder to be allowed both incoming and outgoing.
Is there a specific thing i have to do to make sure the firewall does not block anything?

Normal UDP and TCP packets work while the client is running. Just none of the packets belong to the dndclient proces.

Well, OK. Hummm... some more hummm....

I have no idea where Happy Cloud enters the picture either. I put the high-res version on a friend's computer using the ddohigh.exe installer package just last week and there was no mention of Happy Cloud anywhere. Pando installed as usual. Curiouser and curiouser.

I assume you're running Windows 7 or better? Have you manually installed the DX9 June 2010 runtime? I know Windows 7 and 8 both come with DX11, but sometimes DDO likes to be ornery about running anything other than DX9 without installing that.

Try manually installing the VC++ 2010 SP1 redistributable. I know game binaries since update 17 have been built against that. There could have been a hiccup installing it the first time.

You can try the repair function from the launcher. Click on the tiny down arrow button in the upper right corner of the launcher and select "Options". Then select the "Repair" tab. Check the "Reset the game display settings" checkbox and press OK. I've personally never seen this work, but some folks swear by it.

Delete "dndclient.log" in the "[Program Files]\Turbine\DDO Unlimited" directory before starting the game. It will get rebuilt on load and having a virgin copy will narrow down the information a bit. Maybe that will have a clue in it and we can find out if you post the results.

Here is a link to Turbine's ever helpful support page that sort of deals with what you're experiencing. You might give some of those recommendations a go.

Ummm... Do you have any weird codec packages installed like K-Lite or Shark007? I've seen those do some whacky things to the Windows Media subsystem and by extension DirectX.

Make sure you have the latest video and audio drivers installed for your hardware. I guess there could be a problem with those.

I'm kind of at a loss for more ideas. Try any, all or none of what I've suggested, but please let me know if you resolve the issue and how. I know so many reasons that this game doesn't work, adding another can only help somebody else in the long run.

    Best of luck!

    Default Update

Well still nothing I'm afraid, the game does not want to work for me.

I tried the 2 links you gave me sebastianosmith, One gave me the option to either repair or remove my installation, and directX just completed his install without a hassle. So i'm guessing i have them both installed now.
I do have weird codecs installed, I use "zoom" player for media playback and it installed a bunch of weird ones.

I removed DDO, Happy cloud and pando completely and tried a fresh install (not redownloaded though, the previous download was re used). still nothing.

I deleted the Dndclient.exe and .log files, did not work as well.

I checked know issues on the amd catylist page for help, nothing was mentioned about DDO or things not starting though.

My firewall is not blocking anything i can see in the ddo folder that has a .exe, so no idea what i could do there what i did not do already.

I am a bit fed up with this issue, so i'm gonna take a break from trying.

My best bet is still the no packets thing from my internet, but i honestly have no clue what i can do about it. Nothing is blocked, nothing ask for permission to sen or receive data. I cna surf the net without problem while the client is running.

The only new info i have is that when i start my dndclient and it's running it uses just 8 threads, sometimes it goes to 9 threads.
No idea if that is how my CPU divides the load or not, both that does seem low for a game... right?

    CPU: AMD dualcore athlon 2 X2 250
    GPU: Radeon hd 6770

I'm drawing a blank on the issue now...

Any help is still appreciated but it will take some time to respond as i don't want anything "DDO" related in my near vicinity at this point lol.

That just plain sux. I'm sorry I wasn't able to provide a solution. And believe me, I've had to walk away from more than one computer problem as well. There just comes that point where it's either give it a rest or throw the damned thing across the room.

When you feel like trying to tackle it again, copy and paste the the text of the last ddoclient.log file you have to this thread. It may contain something useful.

Get some well-deserved downtime and respond when you feel like it.

    Take care.

Believe it or not, the nulls are normal. There are a bunch of command line arguments that can be passed to the launcher. Since those are not present, they have null values.

The log file of real interest is ddoclient.log which is found in the installation directory; usually [ProgramFiles]/Turbine/DDO Unlimited. If that one doesn't exist, ddoclient is failing from the get-go. If it does, please post the contents. Somewhere near the bottom of it will be an indicator of what's happening.

    Default Logs

This is the the log from the install Directory

    Code:
000000000.000: Initializing client - build version is [2600.0043.5152.4017.RELEASE] 000000000.000: Initializing the global event handler...
    000000000.000: Creating trigger schedulers...
I'm going to take a wild guess and assume it, normally, has more than these 3 lines?

I let dndClient.exe ran for 2 hours before force shutting it down.
This is also a fresh install btw from the link "DOWNLOAD"(the green button) under the section of "install first then play".

Yep. There should be a whole lot more to it than that. It should go on to initialize networking, then caching, then a list for file found/not found assumptions and versioning and finally a whole bunch of game settings being checked or fetched from the server. Is it hanging on network initialization or trigger scheduling?

    This is real head-scratcher alright...

Your computer is not by any chance a member of a domain is it? I've help troubleshoot something sort of like this a few times when domain permissions were in force. It involved leaving the domain or, in one case, an OS reinstall to resolve.

Other than that, I'm stumped. If it's even worth it to you anymore, I suggest calling Turbine Support with a detailed list of what's been discovered and attempted thus far. You'll have to run through their standard checklist before getting to any real responses, but at least you'll have the answers quickly.

I'm sorry I have no other advice. I wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do.

    Default Thank you

I will make a ticket at DDO support then.

I'll check out the domain thing, but for as far as i know, I'm not just in a home workgroup.

    Anyway
Huge thanks for the quick responses and helpful tips.

If i do get this issue resolved, i'll post the solution and the steps needed to reach it, back here.
It sounds like a very computer specific problem, but you never know who it can help =D.
