Default Game Dice Review and DnD Next

    Greetings All,

Over the Labor Day weekend when DDO took a hex dump, my buddies and I decided we might try and play some old school DnD via Skype. Of course, none of us could find any of our old DnD stuff from the 1980's. I did manage to find some dice and a lead horse (minus the rider) minature. We used graph paper back then and I didn't have any. The dice I found were worn out. I probably kept them for sentimental value.

Foremost we're gonna need dice and my local Walmart and Target carry 0 DnD items. So I went to Amazon and bought the:

100+ Pack of Random D10 Polyhedral Dice in Multiple Colors By Wiz Dice

I actually got it sale for $19.99. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase. Only 1 die was a reject and not usable, and only 3 dice had some imperfections on the number coloring. All in all I got 4 complete sets of dice of the same color and many more mix and match sets. I think I got a good deal for $19.99, but now I noticed the price is $24.99 at the time of writing this post.

I also got the following game grid and pens. We used graph paper as kids, but I know later RPGers used game mats. I hope I can find a way to hang this up so we can all see it via Skype:

    • Chessex Role Playing Play Mat: Battlemat Double-Sided Reversible Mat for RPGs and Miniature Figure Games (26 in x 23 1/2 in) Squares/Hexes
    • Expo Vis-A-Vis Wet Erase Markers, 8 Colored Markers (16078)

I saved the hardest part for last. None of use could find enough paper documentation for the game. I know I gave all my stuff to my high school sweetheart's little bro. I tried Wizards of the Coast and they direct you to Walmart and Target for the basic game box, but my local stores don't have them. Again I tried Amazon, but Amazon is out of stock on the item. I found a few hobby shops that may carry the item, but it will be a drive. We might wait for DnD Next to come out. I did want to share this link that I found from Wizards of the Coast about testing DnD Next:

Anyhoo I'm very happy with the dice. Back in the day we used Crayons to fill in the numbers. I'm very pleased with the colors and that the numbers are pre-filled.

    Cheers,

    Liv
