    Default Awesomium.exe

Has anyone come up with a decent solution for eliminating the multiple instances of awesomium running during gameplay?

Currently, I load the game with the "keep launcher open" setting, for relogs and such. Open task manager, end all instances of the awesomium process, then delete the files in the Turbine folder. This way I can actually play the game instead of watching the DDo slide show. The file reinstalls next time you open the launcher, but at least the game is playable untill you restart the game and repeat the process.

I have searched the Googles and I haven't really found any decent solution. The only statement by Cordovan leads to a "Sorry, this page is expired". For some reason, this app is, according to the Google, an amazing app. I wouldn't know, as it uses every square inch of my memory and processor power to run up to 11 instances. Just the character screen alone needs 2 seperate instances.

    Any input is appreciated.

    Thank You

Well if you open the launcher so it does it's file check, then replace the EXE with some bogus empty exe that does nothing, it'll spawn the process but then exit it. However, no website stuff is available in game, like DDO store. Also I have no idea what other unstable situations this would cause....

Set the file security on AwesomiumProcess.exe for "Traverse folder / execute file" to Deny for all users. File exists, can be read and checked it has the correct CRC etc but cannot be launched.

    1. Right-click AwesomiumProcess.exe file -> Properties -> Security -> Advanced -> Change Permissions -> with entry for Users selected click Edit.
    2. 2nd entry in list is "Traverse folder / execute file", add check mark in the Deny column. OK, OK, etc. to save. Windows gives a warning about Deny settings taking precedence over all any Allow settings.

If you ever do want to use the in-game DDO Store/Help Tickets/etc, just go un-check that Deny.

I just kill the processes once I select a toon to log on with. Not ideal, but better than letting the annoying things run. If I accidentally bring up the store or browser, it freezes the game though.

Yeah, the DDO store third-party program that Turbine uses causes me to lag excessivly at times. I just kill the process, and know that if I click the DDO store or help button, it'll crash the game. No big deal, though, as it still crashes for me often enough (XP until it's pried from my cold, dead hard drive...)

    taskkill /F /IM AwesomiumProcess.exe /T

Paste that into a command prompt or your windows run box(windows+R) to kill all instances of the process. Suggest doing so once all processes of it are loaded. You could also use that line in a script etc. Like others have said removing awesomium can cause bad things to happen particularly when trying to access things that use a browser like window within the game. Good luck.

While I agree that accessing any browser menus can crash the client, I would much rather have a fluid gameplay. If, and that is a big IF, I ever need to use the store, I can log in knowing that is my objective and plan accordingly. Although I still see no reason for so many instances of that app running, but what do I know?

Having the process not run has made the game playable again and I like it.

Thank you all for your positive input.

    Answer:
Awesome says turbine should only be using one process.
Turbine claims this is their work around for Awesome not supporting long link names.
(still waiting for a return shot from Awesome)

Who gets ****ed over? Players everywhere that have to deal with 3rd party interfacing. Other games that use Awesome also complain about how laggy it makes them, even though they deal with only one instance of it.

Yeah, I've also been getting up to 10 instances of the same exe without even accessing the in-game browser, so thanks everyone for the suggestions ITT, will use.

It seems like the decision to use Awesomium may have been a bit counterproductive. Wasn't the idea to get people to use the store more often, not less? If it is a choice between playing the game at all (aka kill the awesomium so as to kill the lag) or using the store, I would lean toward playing the game without the store every time.

Devs: Any chance we might see an update to the version of Awesomium used by DDO anytime soon? The release notes for Awesomium 1.7.2, which came out just last month, states:
    Major Core Changes
?Added API to help mitigate unchecked memory usage during long run times.
