Why can't we by Mstercraft and special metal weapons and armor?

I may have just not found the right shops yet but I'm wondering why I can't by high quality weapons and armor from the normal shops but I can buy magical weapons and armor in the Cold Fired Armory in House Kundarak (according to ddowiki).

Masterwork is supposed to be very well made
Sliver, mithral, adamantine, and other metals are a variety of alternative metals to Iron.

While certainly expensive compared to normal iron weapons and armor, I would expect the material choices no harder to come by than +1 weapons and armor.

The same should go for some of the exotic materials used for clothing.

Just a thought.

If you mean Masterwork Armour and Weapons you can buy them. There's a shop in the Harbour near the bank, I think it's called Hammer and Chain, but could be wrong on the name, it's between the potion shop and the bank anyway.

No metal types (Silver etc.) but the base items are there.

I think you can get Silver Flame weapons from the tavern in Chronoscope (Note: These can't be crafted on).

And I think there's some weapons in Amarath, been a while since I looked there.

Part of this is a carry over from PnP but this is a carry over I agree with. First the special materials we have in game are either hard to mine or require exceptionally skilled craftsmen. You might notice that the cheapest materials also have a significant drawback in PnP to balance the cost. Silvered weapons deal less damage and cold iron costs more to enchant so It's not really the cheapest special material.

The Eberron specific materials flametouched iron and byeshk are both rare minerals.

The in-game reasons I approve are that DR/alignment is almost too easy to get weapons for excluding DR/evil but DR/metal is harder to get and the combination is hard enough to be challenging to overcome for raid bosses.

I just logged in to check the Hammer and Chain in the Harbor area (you got the name right). They don't have any masterwork items, just standard iron items.

I haven't checked the other places, but having very few locations to buy high quality items is reasonable.

get a steel (as example) item, check durability, check hardness

craft something that boosts it to +4 or +5, check again durability and hardness

both increase with the quality of the crafting in the weapon/armor

also, special metal types (in chronoscope they're flametouched iron, that's like having holy/pure good) must be found, so pay attention when u open a chest or get a reward
