Default The Abomination Refined. (U19 8 Ftr 8 Ranger 8 Monk)

LOL OOPS 8 Fighter 6 ranger 6 Monk :P .... Cant seem to fix the thread title :P

After leveling my fighter to cap with the new enhancements I found a few ways to improve upon the Abomination https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...he-Abomination build that I posted a few weeks ago. I have obtained a +5 supreme tome and massaged the feats to be a little more optimal. The +5 tome is not necessary for the build. It operates just fine on +3 tomes. However with +3 tomes you will need to put 2 level ups into dex to qualify for combat archery. It was amazing how much better my fury shot was once I squoze in Point Blank Shot and Combat Archery. Eventually I might try to slot in Improved Precise Shot but I feel that with my playstyle that is less important. The bow generally comes out for big red named sacks of HP. Hammers are for trash.

    So here I present

    Deijora. The Dwarven Abomination.
    8 Fighter/ 6 Ranger/ 6 Monk

    Str 16 + 5 Tome + 7 Levels + 2 Kensai + 5 Fury of the Wild +8 Item, +2 Ship +2 Yugo + 5 Scream + 3 Insight + I Exceptional +2 Rams Might = 58 Str (61 in Fire Stance)

    Dex 16 + 5 Tome +7 Item = 28

    Con 16 + 5 Tome + 1 Dwarf + 9 Item + 3 Insight + 2 Ship + 5 Scream = 41 (44 in Earth Stance )

    Int 11

    Wis 10 + 5 Tome + 8 Item + 2 Ship = 25

    Cha 11 + 5 Tome +8 Item +2 Ship = 26

    Items:
Cannith crafted blindness ward goggles of true seeing with Colorless and Yellow Slots
    Slotted Dexterity +7
Helm Of the Black Dragon (+3 Con) EH
    Slotted Good Luck +2
Necklace Deadly 8 Resist 8 (Need to upgrade to Deadly 10 Resist 10)
Planar Focus of Prowess (+3 Str)
    Epic Black Dragon Robe
    Slotted Heavy Fortification
Epic Cloak of Night (Lev 20) When Mabar comes around I need to upgrade this.
Convalescent Bracers of parrying (20% Amp, +4 saves)
Smoke 2 Greensteel Belt. (+45 hp, Perma Blur, Displace Clickies)
    Sages Ring (92 Potency, 8 Cha , 8 Wis)
    Slotted Power 200
    Guardians Ring
Health 9 Boots of Dodge 10% (Swap for Kundarak Delving Boots when fighting casters)
Epic Gloves of the Claw (30% Amp)

    Weapons
    Mornh Hammer of the Mountains
Drow Warhammer of the Weapon Master (Combat Mastery 5)
    Pinion
Bow of Sinew(Aligned so with the correct metal arrow it bypasses DR)

    Other Highlights
    977 Hp in Earth Stance
81 PRR in Earth Stance (39 in Fire) (For 81 I have Twisted in Standing in Stone from GmoF)
    28% Dodge
    100% Offhand Attacks (80 GTWF +10 Shintao +10 Tempest)

    Saves
    Completely unbuffed are
    46 Fort
    45 Reflex
    33 Will

In earth stance reflex drops to 44. If I get a +10 resist Item goes to 46 + GH + Boat = 51
or 53 in wind stance. I could also slot 2 insightful dex for 1 more.

    Stunning Blow DC:
    10 Base
24 Strength Mod (25 in Fire)
    3 Dwarf
    3 Kensai
    10 Mornh
    5 Drow Hammer
    6 Legendary Tactics
    2 Tactician Feat
    3 Fighter Past life x3

    = 66 Stunning Blow DC
+3 Improved Sunder (even if improved sunder fails it drops the mobs fort save by 3)
= 69 Stunning Blow DC (70 in Fire Stance)

And yes that is enough to work in EE content. It might not land 100% of the time on giants in “What Goes Up” but you will get the casters and the assassins. It also was working very well for me in EE TOR.

    Amp
    30% Claw
    20% Bracers
    15% Shintao

    Play Style:
Personally I play in Fury of the Wild and Earth Stance. I stun everything I can and beat them with my Hammers. I also use trip whenever it is off timer. It lands surprisingly well. Adrenaline I save for when I have the Bow out running Manyshot. When there is a nasty sack of hitpoints to kill then I activate Fury Shot.
If you play in Dreadnaught you will have higher DPS but lots less Burst DPS.

I have enough Amp and Devotion (Potency on Sage Ring) That cocoon hits me for 80-100 per tick. Between Cocoon , SF Pots and Dodge, Displacement and ShadowVeil I have lots of survivability(dead = 0 DPS). (I have even been known to cocoon on party members to keep them up too) the 81 PRR soaks up 36.2% Incoming damage as well.
Eventually I plan to slot devotion onto Mornh for slightly better healing. I also need to slot the skill Heal into a colorless slot somewhere.

This Build was made using the excellent online character planner at http://www.ddochargen.com

    Enhancements
    Dwarf:
    3x Tactics
    2x Toughness
    1x Con
    1x Pick and hammer Training

    Kensai:
    2x Strength
    3x Haste Boost
    3x Tactics
    Kensai Focus (Pick and Hammer)
    4x Pick and Hammer Specialization
    1x Weapon Meditation
    1x Shatter Strike
    Deadly Strike
    Keen edge
    One With the Blade
    3x Dodge

    Tempest:
    Whirling Steel
    Tempest
    3x Improved Reactions
    1x Whirling Blades

    Shintao:
    3x Deft Strikes
    3x Iron Skin
    1st 3 Core abilities (15% amp and 30 Positive Spell Power )

    Ninja:
    1st 3 Core (3rd is Shadow Veil)
    1x Sneak Attack Training
    3x Acrobatic
    3x Agility

    Deepwood
    1st Core Only

    Arcane Archer
    1st Core
    Conjure Arrows

Admittedly I could drop the AA and Deepwood enhancements to pick up more DPS but conjured arrows are a huge convenience and the 1st deepwood core is 1d6 sneak attack. Plus I wanted to be able to say that my toon is a Dwarven Kensai Tempest Shintao Ninja Arcane Sniper.

    Twists
    Legendary Tactics
    Standing in Stone
    Rejuvenation Cocoon

Standing in Stone is my Swap Slot. If I need unearthly reactions or energy sheath or brace for impact, it goes in this slot.

If you decide to make your own Abomination I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoy playing mine.

Find 5 more AP to spend in DWS for 75 spellpower. You won't get that kind of deal anywhere else.

Yeah I know. Easy to drop the AA enhancements for more devotion. And to be honest where I'm not using the bow 100%$ of the time deneith sturdy arrows are good enough. Problem is I'm lazy and where cocoon is already healing me very well I figured that the AA arrows were a decent addition.

Nicely laid out & very similar to what i'm running at present (and levelling...very...slowly...**** work heh).

I'm not familiar with too much of endgame these days, but would not axes be more suitable (assuming LD)?
Reason I ask is that should I not care to TR this life I would be running twin Adaxus' on my HElf variant - until something better of course.

Another question if you dont mind; how did you find the levelling & split you decided on?
My plan is to be 8F/2R/2M at level 12 so that I could be centred w/min2 khopesh in earth 3 & with two cleaves (min2 swap to Adaxus).

For me the trouble is in the feat selection (as I also want whirlwind, which has its own tradeoffs)

    For the plan I need:
    Barbarian PL / Toughness
    Power Attack
    Cleave
    Great Cleave
    Weapon Focus:Slash
    Greater Weapon Focus:Slash
    Weapon Specialization:Slash
    Khopesh Proficency
    Adept of Forms
    Master Of Forms
    Improved Critical:Ranged

Thats 11 of the 12 feats available; Dodge, Completionist or Stunning Blow are obvious contenders

The pickle is the last 3 feats. If Dodge is taken then could go Mobility, Spring Attack. Which leaves one at 18.

Can you be centered with a non-proficent weapon? (could fiddle feats to drop khopesh & fit CE & Whirlwind). Could also take Overwhelming Crit at 24 rather than 21.

In retrospect; I should have been Human rather than HElf (cleric). Too many years of self sufficient lives

    Anyway, would appreciate ideas

I tested Tempest + Shintao on a PDK iconic and was finding they do not stack - I was not getting 100% off hand strikes while centered with handwraps or with kensai One With the Blade

Axes are fine. The trade off is headsman's chop versus pulverizer. (In dreadnaught) If you run in Fury as I do It makes little difference other than Mornh is such a kick butt weapon. Also with mornh you get planar focus synergy (+4 Att/dam, +15 PRR)which you will not get with any 1h axe that I am aware of.

Heroic leveling I did all the way to 20 in handwraps. The reason is that in order to squeeze in the feats I did with their prerequisites as well as to maximize my skill points I did not take fighter level 8 until character level 20. I used a pair of junk loot hand wraps that I would have probably otherwise sold to a broker. As I went bludgeon specced all the feats I chose for that helped the hand wraps too.

As far as your feats are concerned I would not bother with toughness or Barb PL. I originally took the Barb PL but felt it was expendable. Adept of forms is auto granted at monk 6. I did not take IC:Ranged due to the fact that my ranged DPS is tied to Adrenaline that adds 16 to your crit threat range. Personally I would try to fit in at least Point Blank Shot. As far as being centered with non proficient weapons I really dont know. Never tested that myself.

Hmm I didnt test this forever myself. I beat the training dummy and it seemed I was getting 100%. Might need to go to the boat and play some more. If I am only getting 90 the I know where to re allocate those AP (Devotion in DWS)

If I wasn't so jealous of your build I might do something similar on Sofu . Nicely put together, you will have to carry me through all the EEs.

Handwraps never played nice with tempest. "You gain +10% chance to make off-hand attacks when dual wielding." Wraps don't count as dual wielding.
Haven't tested being cenetred with fighter enhancements. Added to to-do list.

Really? because I can not think of a time where tempest off-hand proc was not working with monk unarmed combat before.

Interesting. I never found it working. If it did, I'd have made a 12/8 ranger/monk at some point

You might consider twisting in A Dance of Flowers if you want additional DPS. Doing +1.5[W] more damage is no joke.

Yup definitely an option. Could probably run dance of flowers instead of standing in stone. All depends on what you need to accomplish in the quest you are running.

Any specific reason not to use light/heavy picks? It does begin with a x4 critical after all...

sure... picks work fine. Death Nips would be pretty neat. But I like hammers better. Mornh, Drow hammer combo Gives you seeker 10, Stun 10, And Exceptional Combat mastery 5. Mornh also gives you +4 hit / Damage and 15 PRR as a planar focus. There is also a x4 hammer available to use (Nightforge). Hammers also synergize better with handwraps for the 1-20 grind.

all that being said though you could make this work just fine with a good pair of picks.

For this to work with 32pt, I assume dropping str from 16 to 14 should work?
Also, any specific reason for the 11 int?

11 Int is for the skill points in Heal. If you don't care about having all the skills I planned out you can drop this.

If I had to choose I would probably drop the Charisma by 4 rather than Strength by 2. The reason being is that OC requires 23 Strength.
It would also be possible to rob 2 points from CON if you felt it necessary. But starting with less than 16 CON feels wrong on a dwarf.

Really it is going to depend on your Tome situation.

If planning for +3 tomes in STR and DEX you need to hit 21 Dex for combat archery and 23 STR for OC

    16 STR + 3 Tome + 4 Level Ups = 23 . So realisticly can be done and get OC at 21.
    16 Dex + 3 Tome + 2 Level Ups ( you have 6 level up points by 24 ) = 21. So can take Combat Archery at 24.

+3 Tome for Wisdom is also highly recommended as it lets you qualify for Zen Archery with a 10 Base WIS.

If you don't have +3 tomes I would recommend dropping Combat Archery. If you take Improved Precise Shot instead of Combat Archery you only need to hit 19 Dex. 16 + 2 Tome + 1 Level will do that for you. This would let you put 1 more Level up into Strength. Or If IPS isn't your cup of tea you could Hit 17 Dex (GTWF) cy starting with 15 Dex and a +2 Tome. By starting with 15 Dex you free up 2 of the 4 build points you need as well.

Also remember that every point you take from strength is going to hurt your stun DC. Also as a 32 point build you dont have any Fighter Past Lives to help push up that DC. Now my Strength Gear is not optimal in my gear setup. You can get +2 more STR from profane bonus on Nether Grasps and slot in a +10 Strength Item to help overcome this challenge.

I've been leveling up pretty much the same build. Been having a blast with him. The one difference I see is that you took Deflect Arrows, whereas I am planning on going with Grandmaster of Forms. What was your reasoning for this? I've never really tried out Deflect Arrows; is it really nice to have?

    Thanks.

I decided on taking Deflect Arrows because it is a really decent damage mitigation feat. In EE content arrows hit you HARD. Being able to stop some of this is great. Grandmaster Stance in cintrast offers 1 more CON than Master Stance and like 3 more PRR IIRC. So it comes down to 1 Con and 3 PRR Vs. extra damage mitigation.

Love the build, about to try it, but I'm lacking the tomes (I have +2s and +3s). Is that a killer? Also, how would you modify the build to be able to dual wield centred axes/hammers earlier? I have no desire to just coast through to 20th before the build comes to life.

getting ready to TR into this build, or close to it, and have tried at least a half dozen times in the builder to get to 8 fighter sooner to dual wield hammers while centered. so far, no luck. too many feats need prereqs that are granted, or need to be taken, with ranger or monk levels. you need the 6th ranger level to get ITWF as a free feat before you can take GTWF with one of your fighter levels. and you need 6 monk levels to get your adept as a free feat before you can take master of forms with a fighter level feat.

you can try to delay ranger or monk but the best I could do is get to fighter 8 one or two levels earlier and just not worth it, for me. maybe someone else that has more experience with the build planner and getting feats to tie together can find a way and I would love to see it. but really think this is a level 20+ build or one you LR into if you still have the +20 LR heart they gave us.
