For now, at least, Amazon is my go to publishing format, simple because of the manner in which they do business. For example, they do not attempt to own any portion of my copyright. I keep all rights, so that if a better offer comes along from a publishing house, let's say, I can pull my work and go to them with no issues at all.
Another point in their favor is that I can custom design the interior of my books. Fonts, scene breaks, etc. It gives me full creative control over what I present, which I like a lot.
Of course, the massive downside is that they don't help market, and without sufficient funds, I can't afford to do it myself. So, I play the word of mouth game, which is painfully slow. Especially when I get great reviews.
The digital book frontier is still going through some growing pains, in my mind. They (Kindle, Wattpad) aren't publishers, but some of them want to act as if they are, without having to do the heavy lifting, such as paying writers, and marketing their work. One of these days, someone is going to set the standard, and the digital publishing front will really go nuts.
