Default Celestia, DR breaking and blue slots?

Celestias get a blue slot if you upgrade them with the PDK favor into a Planar Conflux set.

I've been told this is because any sort of DR breaking effects (or augments) mess up their (Celestias) DR breaking. This includes effects like the Paladin's Weapons of Good, the weapon effects you get from certain destinies, and even Enchant Weapons (the only relevant effect I can see is that it gives an implement bonus). I think Deadly Weapons may be okay, but the other arti weapon buffs do break it.

Does anyone know WHY this happens (ie: have the devs told us?). Is this a coding issue or was this always the way it was intended to work? And, what is the practical effect of this?

Celestias do Supreme Good damage (3-18). Is all that Good damage lost with a weapon effect? Or is it just that the Good damage no longer breaks Good DR? Does a target get 3-18 extra base weapon damage?

I'm going to guess that since it gets a blue slot the devs have no interest in fixing it, I just don't understand why it happened in the first place or what the practical results are when using a broken weapon (broken because buffs have been cast on it)?

Celestia's supreme good does not actually do good damage (check the damage types in the weapon description the only one listed is light) If you add a metal or alignment type to Celestia it will break that DR but no others. for ecapmle if you add silver it will break silver DR but not silver & good. If you add chaotic to it it will break chaotic DR but no others.

By doing only light damage, it's coded as not doing any type of physical damage and therefore can't be resisted by DR. Once you add in one of those DR breakers, that's when it's registered as doing physical damage, and then it only breaks the type of DR that you put on but no longer breaks any others.

Search fu is hard with the new forums but I remember FoS did say that unless they did a damage type overhaul, that it would have to stay that way.

It says in the description that it does additional good damage though. Are you saying it doesn't actually do this damage?

I've been trying to figure out this damned weapon as well, as I keep seeing yellow numbers on mobs and I thought it was supposed to get through all DR.

It does the damage but it is different from normal in that it is not "typed" as good for the purpose of bypassing DR.

Just to repeat it back to see if I understand what you're saying...

Celestias (being blades of light) do special damage typed damage we can call Light, and as such they break *ALL* DR...

If you include a DR breaker that changes the damage from being Light to "DR breaker type" and thus doesn't bypass all other DR?

So, basically, Paladins and any destinies that apply damage effects, plus the victims of helpful artie buffs all end up with a crippled weapon. Because the Light damage it does no longer breaks DR (unless you happen to be facing something that needs the DR your powers/spells provide)?

Is this correct? Also, does the same apply to Stars of Day?

That is correct. I will mention that if an enemy is resistant to light damage then that will lower Celestia's damage, but those mobs are few and far between.

If you look at the damage type for Star of Day it is doing normal damage like any other weapon.

ill add this ,for star of day.
1st they are sun-blades (short-swords that deal bastard sword damage) as well -ninja spy lovem if they can't get Celestia .

2nd they are made from GOLD. and after testing it i find that mean they do NOt get rusty .so you can use them freely on rust monsters(i actually used it on "Rusty" ). do notice that oozes still melt them fast.

and in case you didn't know this (or read wiki ddo ) they have random powers when u get them.(look here to see all possibilities: http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Star_of_Day )

Thanks for the tip about the gold (ie: rust-free) nature of Sun Blades.

On my paladin I have a set and a half...a Holy Burst + Radiance and a Greater Good + Radiance "set". That's for blinding opponents. I also have a Fiery Detonation + Disruption and a lootgen +5 Banishing of Disruption that I use on undead (until I can get another Star disruption from pulls).

I will say this, while I'm not very happy with the random effects on named loot system the devs have settled on, I've grown fond of the effects on the Star of Day swords. They're a PITA to farm, but it's entirely on my own time and it gives me a constructive option to spend my 2nd life (and later) comms. Someday I'll pull a second Greater Good + Radiance and be a really happy camper.

According to http://ddowiki.com/page/Monster_DR_and_weaknesses the only mobs resistant to Light are golems -- and not even all of them.
