Default Who let the dogs out?

Sorry , that should be, Who left the dogs out?
What has happened to my rogue mechanics pups?
I had the set of them, used them virtually every quest
and now they have gone, and instead I have a bunch of traps/bombs.
I like the new system for enh, even though I may just go mad trying to keep all the clickies going.
But I liked having the metal mutts.

    TURBINE!

I think I read in the release notes that they took away the mechanical pets from all classes except Artificers. My Rogue lost all her mechanical pets, as well. <sniff> They were really nice for grabbing the aggro and letting me get in for a sneak attack.

Well, now that you can almost use sneaking viably, DDO has decided you don't need mechanical help. If it makes you feel any better, artificers now have a whole enhancement tree devoted to their mechanical dog with a few confounding metamagics on the side, and the dog will still do exactly what you don't want it to do, be that attacking or staying still. Consider yourself lucky!

you can mess about with noise makers to put all those mechanical parts to good use you get from traps you disable.

you can also mess about with UMD and summon scrolls for that once off distraction to get the fight started (they will go splat though)

with a bit of sneakiness you can also do hit and run attacks as mobs will give up searching for you if you give them the slip

the main problem with the rogue's metal mutts was the grease it cast which affects friendlies as well as hostiles. they were more of a novelty item that annoyed other players than a properly implemented tool. turbine could have removed the grease attack and given them the standard hireling features but i guess they decided that wasn't worth the effort now we have a much better stealth system.
