Default why doesn't my MacBook recognize the .dmg file?

Took me 4 hours to download (yes, I live in a rural area!) and now it tells me it can't be opened because the file is not recognized.

I'm sure there's an easy answer - at least I hope there is

    Thx in advance.

    Hey there.

There are two possibilities. One: Your Mac's Gatekeeper software, which restricts opening items downloaded by default until you tell it otherwise, is keeping the file from opening. You can change this behavior in System Preferences, in Security.

The second possibility is that the download somehow corrupted. You may need to download it again. This time, if you must try again, download it while all other applications are closed and you aren't doing anything on the computer. Also, ensure that any antivirus software is not running.
