Default Forum links redirection is wrong

It seems the links to the forums have changed from http://forums.ddo.com/ to http://www.ddo.com/forums/ recently. That's okay (although there was this certificate issue for the last few weeks which is honestly un-professional at best). But then the current redirect rule for all the old links to http://forums.ddo.com/ is rewriting the URL to http://www.ddo.com/en/. So obviously it gives a 404 error for any link that is older than a few months, including, links in posts inside the forum itself. This can be fixed on the client side by just replacing /en/ by /forums/ but this is really yet another annoying thing with the forums.

    Could you please fix this?

Yes it occurred with the Forum Downgrade.

It's part of all the PITA that have been put in place since that downgrade.
They haven't fixed it in the few months ( now ) since it has been put in place...
And like the certificate error I don't expect it to be fixed soon by the (in)experts from the webdesign they use.

Seriously between the Awesomium process that hogs the game because long links might have crashed the old browser when it's dead easy to make short links as you have full control of the store content ( and the link size ), and all the broken things that came with the forum downgrade you have to wonder if the Intern that did the job got his diploma in the end.

Thanks for this thread. I had multiple build threads that I hadn't subscribed to that I stored links for in spreadsheets that weren't working and I was thinking those threads had been deleted or locked or something.

After reading your OP I was able to find those threads and subscribe to (if needed) or at least know how to get back to them...

    Turbine needs to read this:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_301

And then fire the external consultant who designed the forum downgrade or send the internal web designers for additional training (whichever situation applies)

In a way, I am glad to know that I am not alone with this issue. But then it also means that this has been going on for a while without a fix. And I am not sure I want to invest more money in this game when the developers clearly don't even know how to properly setup HTTP redirect (I know it is a different team but still).

Honestly, the fix would take less than one hour to apply. Even for an intern.

Oh and BTW, it seems even the thread notification mechanism is broken. I didn't get any notification e-mail for the replies to this post. Seriously, nowadays, with a random tutorial, anyone can setup a forum with proper authentication (hint: with cookies and stuff so that you don't need to authenticate every 15 minutes), working notification messages and a correct certificate.

Even indie games with low-budget, very small teams can afford to have this kind of things working. And with Turbine being backed by Warner Bros now, they sure have more budget than that.
