Power creep is bad. However, your arguments against it are neither good, nor convincing.

Take a nice base item and each raid/expansion would allow us to modify it. (Note you can modify any item you like including named)

example of how this could be done:

Tempest Spine - Eye of the Storm Reaver -- Used in the Stone of Change and adds shocking burst to weapons OR 10% elec absorption (some players don't use melee. This would make it worth obtaining for any class)

Abbot - (Held in quiver slot) Quiver (as live), scabbard (for melee types), Spell book (Wizards), Arcane Focus (Sorcs), Holy symbol (Divine types). These items could be upgraded several times with any number of features.

Hound -- Claw of the Beast. Used in the Stone of Change and adds the bee effect on hit / on being hit (for armor)

Vision of Destruction -- Horn of the General. Used in the Stone of Change and adds fire bats. A chance to proc the lethal fire bats from the final fight.

Titan -- adds a colorless socket. Colorless sockets could be combined to make colored sockets. (ie 3 colorless combined makes a yellow).

Master Artificer -- adds +15 craft to an item. Now you can craft on your favorite items.

Lord of Blades -- adds the standard LOB weapon effects to the item of your choice.

With this kind of concept, tweaked as the community found necessary, items wouldn't become outdated very quickly. Additionally the older content would still find players and would be run (When's the last time you ran Titan.....).

The basic concept is that they could allow you to keep that awesome new item and modify it, rather than having it become complete junk. The new content would allow us to modify our Dragon Armor, Twilight, etc. Not just throw them away.

    100% Agreement with the OP.

Plus Sylphh with a single forum post is 10* as creative in item design than the whole U19.

Don't get me wrong - questdesign &, wilderness area in Stormhorns are just marvellous. But items... Even calling the U19 item-design a dissapointment would be understatement.

    quest design isn't that great.

Break in the ice = Prey on the Hunter
Breaking the Ranks = Devils Assault

Default I First Met Powercreep in Magic the Gathering...

The problem is separated in tiers:

Casual Players: They meet items that get obsolete the next time they play, or are now unequipped due to some Smart-dev raising minimum levels on craftables/old items.

Slow-playing gamers (like me): Remember that sweet Epic item that took you 4 months to acquire? it's useless now. There's Lootgen that replaces half your stuff...

Average gamer: Remember that nice twink item set? That nicely constructed item has a better counterpart in the new content! Don't worry, we know you love to re-farm all your leveling gear every life, and we are keeping up to date! (this is sarcasm, DO NOT TAKE LITERAL)

Hardcore Gamer: Still so epic that you solo raids? Remember parties? No? Well, we'll force you to remember so you have 6/12 chances at the new loot in every quest/raid. Not because you'll like it, or need them, but because our game is going from MMORPG to a mixture of powecreep+chat room.

    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _______________

I face it. DDO is a shade from what it was since MotU arrived.
Once i'm Epic enough i solo things because there are no parties for it, AND because i can! Epic Elite quests mean i'll solo FOR A LONGER TIME, not that i'll really wanna risk that 10% exp....
If OLD stuff did better, i'd use it. But why now? When some random ?*tem that get's 100% drop grants the same stat that a lvl 24/25 item did before?
Why bother earning Cannith Crafting Exp? All the great things re either low in level, or obsolete now. Not like the system got an update in content, just in damage...
Why bother farming for items in low levels? Better farm exp, so you can get the obsenely better stuff from higher levels FASTER.
Why bother farming Epic Items? You'll either TR sooner than you'll get one of them complete, or find better stuff at lvl 21 ahead...
Most old HP sources are still mandatory, because High Level Content Hits Hard Enough To 1-2 Shot you anyway in EE...
With the new update i kissed Desert Sand/Lacerating/Erosive/Mauling lootgen goodbye. They were so nice...

I like that playerbase opinión is important, as consultants sometimes, but there is so much damage on the game every update...but soon there'll be no playerbase to ask!
