CyberGhost works for me, as well - I can get past the 'Initializing' and actually play (with crazy lag, but it's better than nothing). But the second I turn it off, I can no longer get past the initializing screen. Well, at least it gives me hope that something somewhere is fixable...

CyberGhost works for me, I can play liek nothing had happened. Other measures did not.

Cyberghost working here also without it just get the "can't connect to authentication server 20 of 20" message
Linksys is a company that makes routers for homes. It used to be stand alone company but was purchased by Cisco Systems around 2002 or so(just guessing). More than likely, they use ATnT also depending on who your Last mile ISPs in your area are.
My home routers have been Linksys for years and my current router is still a linksys.
How are you accessing your neighbor's network? Is it the old the user is too dumb to change the default password or did they tell you the password? I use WEP and my password is a 32 key HEX code and whenever any of my sons friends want to connect their eyes gloss over when I give them the sheet with the password on it so they can link their internet devices through my network. That is great fun.
No VPN for me. I am not loading a 3rd party application on my machine that is going to be limited in what my bandwidth is. Turbine is fairly data intensive and I don't want the frustration of having my limit being reached while playing.
Since there is no update from Turbine, that means the problem persists and my gaming pleasure will not be satisfied today.
Then I do my usual.
Log into my accounts and do daily dice rolls.
Check the AH for anything that I don't need.
Don't change instance.
Don't run a quest.
Don't attempt to zone to ANYTHING where it requires a change of instance.
For me, it sounds like an instance change/zone change is where a lot of new packets get blasted to each other and somehow the handshake fails. Which means it is a network problem somewhere.
BTW, many players have had this problem since May 30, 2013 with logging in. Maybe that same code has been implemented in other parts of the game and its performance is now finally gone critical. BTW, this is when the AWESOMIUM process began to be used by DDO.

Am able to get in that way, but seems lame. Anyway the characters that can't get past the loading screen are showing up in the Guild log as being online. As if they got in but never got an ack back to complete the load before it times out and disconnects.
When I look at the Guild log I see I was just online with that character
It's random among my toons and servers. One got stuck last night zoning (on Thelanis), but was freed up this morning.
Another toon (on Argon) was stuck zoning, then freed up last night, then stuck again this morning zoning from House D to Market.
AT&T U-Verse.
Charleston, SC area.
Prior to downloading Lammannia, I had no issues.
No idea if that means anything.
The only new software added to my machine is Turbine and Microsoft Updates. Which I assume most all players have the Microsoft updates.(except the MAC players)

I know we get HINT screens. I still get the infamous "THE" hint screen at times.
I am beginning to regret the $90 I spent on Shadowfell and the other virtual goodies that came with it. Next time, I will spend it on liquor and cause myself to get a hangover. At least I can blame myself.

Well, today is my first time trying to load the game ever (having only joined and downloaded it yesterday), and I came here wondering if there was maintenance or something. I can log into the game, but all of the servers seem to be down. Is this what everyone is talking about here, or is it another issue?
Still couldn't get in.... opened Turbine folder & ran compatability checks on applications.. that awesome thing & launchers.
my puter is win7 with firefox browser, compatability said use winxp service pack 2. so i set that. (I'd been running on nothing selected for run compat.)
I'm at the login screen now. Really slow loading, but toon made it to crafting hall. (khyber server)
..not holding breath

Different issue. Some people cannot connect, some people (like myself) can connect to character selection menu but will get stuck in the following loading screen.
Further, you might be able to log in on another server but as soon as you change instances you'll get stuck again. Then again it will work sometimes but might get bad after some time.
After I installed CyberGhost (link posted one page before or scroll up) I did not have any issues.
Funny thing is that I did not have any problems till they started *investigating* some random discconnects/connection issues mentioned by few people.

People are having problems logging in.
Turbine, do you think there is a correlation?
I know that changes occurred in the userpreferences file after that update.

Is your screen still showing all servers down? On my screen, that usually clears up in under 20 seconds.
I am logging in and out on many servers while I am typing, so I know game worlds are up.
BTW, make sure your firewall is allowing Turbine and AWESOMIUM.
If you choose Ghallanda or Cannith, I will be willing to send you a welcome to the game care package that you can access AFTER you get off Korthos Island.
For your first character, build a dwarf ranger and put his constitution to 16, Dex to 14 or 16, Strength to 14 or 16, and Wisdom to 12. The character is survivable on Korthos and you won't need other players to help you.
Eventually you will realize that your character is not that great, no first character is as you learn the game, and you will roll up another. Just think of this character as a learning character.
If you roll up a sorceror, wizard, or rogue and you are trying to solo the game, you will die. A
LOT.
Also, you will see this little silver diamond icon on the thing that shows your character's face. That is a FREE silver dice roll every day, usable once per day per server. It can give you some good stuff and some dumb stuff, but it is only five seconds of your time.
As a first level character you have a plat limitation of 1250 plat I think.

The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

Well, over the weekend I had none of the problems anyone had been describing. All my characters could log in just fine.
Now, Monday morning, I can't even get to the character selection screen. I log in at the launcher, screen goes black, and that's it.
Computer is the same as it was yesterday, not rebooted, nothing changed... so it's certainly not on my end.
If you read the technical assistance forum there are quite a few new players that are trying to play, but they could not because of connectivity issues.
There were probably those same issues before but May 30 is when awesomium went live for DDO. Which, by the way, is the day that Turbine released the launcher that made it so NO ONE could play the game.
Turbine also mucked around with new forums for LoTRO last week.
Since, the Star Trek Online game has also been affected by network performance, I am assuming that the issue in this thread is about internet backbone problems.
I just want Turbine to realize that the log in issues have been around since at least May 30, 2013.

Yep ever since, DDO always crashes the first time I login on the game and load a character, sometimes it's necessary to try to login several times to be able to play.
I was playing on sunday and then suddenly when changing area the game crashed, that was the last time I was able to play.
I can access all other servers but Sarlona in which I get that attempt to connect message, and on the other servers the game goes down as soon as I change area as well.
This problem started after during gameplay, and I know I performed no changes on my system in a while...
Soon I'm going to have to go away for a couple of weeks and I can't stop wondering what is going to happen to AH stuff we may have in mail box that I couldn't check if I won, sold, etc... plus I was trying to participate in CC which will be unlikely to happen since can't access the game, and not to mention not being able to assist the guild in anyway.
