There is already a post on the Lamannia forums about the Masterful Craftsmanship no longer working on some people's Cannith Challenge items, and hopefully that is a bug that is known and will be cleaned up before it goes to Live. This issue is a bit different than that, unless the MC change is WAI, and so I thought that it should start it's own thread.
First, a little bit of history on the issue. The Vaults of the Artificers, which contains solely the Cannith Challenges, has a current list price in the DDO store of 1250 Turbine Points. To give some perspective, the Menace of the Underdark Adventure Bundle, containing all 3 quest arcs, four explore areas, and the raid, has a current cost of 1622 Turbine Points. In fact, the only Quests that are more expensive than the Vaults of the Artificers pack are bundles of multiple packs; the various MotU bundles, and the Necropolis I, II, III, and IV bundle.
When the nerf bat was taken to the Cannith Challenge's XP rewards, we were told that they retained their value because of the very powerful items that were able to be made from the Cannith Challenges. There was some grumbling, and there are still some people who complain about the lowered XP, but overall people were very accepting of this. Because the items are very good for their levels, they do still give value to the high price tag that is associated with the Adventure Pack needed to get them.
Looking over the Spell Power + Lore items for each element, it looks like they are largely using placeholder values right now. Many of them do not even have the correct element for their Lores. So before too much work goes into tuning these items, I wanted to reiterate this.... The level of power of these items is not a balance that can be looked at in a void, comparing them to alternate options of similar Minimum Level. The power of these items entirely determines the value of an extremely high priced Adventure Pack purchase. Currently on Live, the Cannith Challenge items have a significantly higher Spell Power and Lore than what you will typically find on similar level LootGen items. If in adjusting them to fit with the new way that Lore functions they have their relative power reduced, then there will be a great many upset customers.
TLDR version; The Cannith Challenge gear is currently really good. Don't go and screw people over by nerfing them as you are adjusting them to the new Lore system. Customers who shelled out for the Vaults of the Artificers did so with the expectation that they would be getting decent XP rewards and great items for their purchase. The XP has already been nerfed into the ground, don't do the same with the items, please?
Oh, and I would bring up the possibility of upping the Epic Challenges to level 30, like the Eveningstar ones, so that you can still use them on capped characters. But I suppose I shouldn't push my luck!
