Unhappy Game client crashes to desktop, and awsomenium.exe has multiple instances.

Since the new update i have been having a shutdown issue with DDO. When I start up the game the client comes up as normal and it takes me all the way to the character picking screen normally. When i pick my toon and start the game it goes to a loading screen and a progress bar shows up below it as normal. The issue i have is that nothing ever loads, then the whole game crashes and an error is generated and sent to microsoft. The details say that it has to do with the client itself. I have also noticed that when i call up the process task manager i have well over 10 or more instances of something called awesomonium.exe popping up all using system resources like a bandit at a bank. When i receive the error it give me an option to debug which i took and it fails to run also. I have tried to copy what the tech report says but it won't let me copy/paste the message. This has been happening for 2 days now, and i have tried reinstalling the game 7 times , reinstalling the video, and sound drivers, reinstalling directx 9 since i run xp and not windows 7 or 8, and nothing has changed. I have tried other games and they all seem to run just as good as they have before, and the problem seems restricted to DDO. I have bought all the packs available and would love to try the new pack but it seems that i will never be able to play DDO again since no mention of this bug has been posted and nobody seems to be fixing it. I sure hope i didn't spend all this money just to be upgraded out of my game.

Sorry, man. Getting an official Turbine response is much like pulling teeth. It that is truly what you seek, try putting in a trouble ticket, or reaching out to Turbine's technical support (sorry, don't have the numbers handy).

You have a couple of options, possibly:

    DDOPreloader

I have heard of a number of people who have stated that this app does work really well at reducing/eliminating DDO client crashing.

As to the number of Awesomenium.exe processes, I found on one particular piece of hardware that I could save the DDO client, and my character would load properly, if I killed all but 1-2 of these processes. Just open your task manager after character selection, and then weed out all of the Awesomenium.exe processes using the least amount of memory by killing them.

Despite the official responses to the contrary, I (like much of the community) believe that these multiple processes are doing "something" in excess that is correlated to DDO client disconnect issues.

*shrug* There you have it. Good luck.

Thanks. I tried the preloader, but i've had the same issue pop up again and again. I will keep the preloader since it actually makes the game load alot quicker than if i didn't have it, but i think it has something to do with the client programming itself. It worked great before the update, and now it crashes everytime I start it. I put in a ticket already and im just waiting till they respond. Thanks for at least trying to help out. Its very much appreciated

    Question

Well I finally got word back from the tech support and basically the jist of it said ask for help in-game.

My problem is that I can't get "in-game". So i guess its tough luck for me and all the others having issues with the client and awesomnium.exe nonsense. I'll check back occasionally to see if a fix ever gets worked on, but im guessing this is the end of my DDO run it seems. I'll promise to check it weekly if not monthly, and maybe it'll run then. I included the email sent to me by tech support. Take good care all.

Red face Its a miracle!!!!!! The game finally works, Yea not so much.

Ok, after posting my farewell to this issue i tried to figure out one last time what the problem is with the game client crashing after the "pick a character" screen. So for one last time I started DDO and watched my task manager at the same time just to see if issues popped up that way. It sure did too. When I picked my character and hit the play button the screen switched to the world loading screen. I quickly noticed that as soon as it did so, about 15 to 16 instances of "Aweomium.exe just popped up in the list. I immediately went about ending the extra processes, and left only one running. I switched back to the load screen and it loaded just fine and I finally got in game without a hitch. Reluctanly i ended the game and tried again but left the processes running and again it crashed as usual. So i repeated the process and cancelled the executable when the 16 instances popped up again and the game worked again. So a hint to whomever is working the tech table......its Awesomium.exe thats the big problem. Dump it ASAP and do something else, or make some kind of workaround. Its definately that new process thats screwing up the game. You can send my fee through snailmail. Good luck.

    Smile The end?!?

Ok. I have gone to work, and come back to jump on, and now that not-so "Awesomium.exe" is spawning out of control. Now i can no longer shut down the 10 or so processes that its starting on the world loading screen fast enough before the game client crashes saying an exception in the win32 went unhandled.

Ok DDO. You win. I'm beat. I will begin the uninstall process right after this quick note. I could use the space, and frankly i'll just come back at a later date and re-install it again to give it one last try before I hang up the account for a while to concentrate on the games that are still working. I know games can be a big pain for developers when it comes to new content, and tweaks, but coming from the side of a guy that is struggling to keep a roof over my head, and food on the table, I spend hard earned cash to enjoy this game, and to support the developers, and wouldn't mind at all for some of that back. Sure free cakes and boosts are nice but i'd rather just get in game and have a good experience while playing than all the frilly stuff in my in-game mailbox. Again, i want to say i did have a great time playing, and I hope that after some time, I can come back and play again, but like I said before. I pay good money to play along with others and we should at least have a game that we can play without crashing as it does constantly. Good luck finding out the problems and see you in a few months.

I have it figured out. They need one connection each for the CIA, NSA, FBI, IRS, DNC, and finally one for ObamaForAmerica, got a problem with that?

I'm still locked out of the game as of now. Apparently my "Internet" is broken according to turbine, but i can get to any site i want just fine so it doesn't seem broken. Yea i think im gonna put off buying anything else till it fixes itself somehow since that is now my only option. So upset and nobody has any answers. I swear I will never spend another dime on a game like this again. No matter who's fault it is for the internet to be broken it is.

    Well, John...

1 question. What the heck is 74.201.103.121? And with all their internet backbone issues is it still valid?

    Typically we check against gls.ddo.com

woo hoo....someone noticed. Thx. The address is one another poster in another thread told me to do. Do you know the address so that I could do a tracert to the cannith server? I just don't understand whats happening to the client.it just continually crashes after choosing my toon. The VPN client I use to log on is very slow and first come first serve so connecting with my dsl connection would be better. Im so lost its not even funny. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

    Nope, that trace looks fine.

Random thought. You may want to clean out your firewall of Turbine and awesome process and let windows ask you if you want to allow them again. Windows can be stupid with it.

However, what you described in your op sounds more like a driver crash than anything. You'll have to get someone go guide you through how to work through your event history (MS programs there) to figure it out.

That is the first I've heard of that. But if that is true...

I hate to say it then, but the people who are routed through alter.net are screwed. There is nothing Turbine will be able to do to help you really. It is an internet routing issue which is beyond what Turbine and the home user has much control of.

You'll have to contact your ISP to see if by chance they'll try to re route you.

Now... maybe you could hook up a proxy system so you could be routed in a manner that wouldn't be going through that, but I don't know how to do that. A search on "proxy gaming service" may help.

Missing, thanks for all your good advice. Its been a couple of months since i've been able to connect directly. I'm gonna call my ISP and see if i can get my routing changed. If not I switch to verizon. Currently my ISP is comcast, and they seem to have my whole town locked in except for verizon dsl. I've had nothing but issues with comcast, and this is just another one on top of all the other issues. No sense in paying for internet that doesn't do what I need it to do, and a VPN service on top of that just to connect. Again thanks for answering my post back. I thought i was gonna be forgotten

I honestly don't know if it is good advice or not, but those are the only random straws I can think of.
