Default Question about Otto's Whistler and Pin

Hello to all. I was hoping someone could answer a question about shiradi for me. Does anyone know how the mechanic for Otto's and Pin works to make it proc? Are there enhancments, or gear I could use to boost it to make it proc more often, and against higher level mobs?

I am currently running a level 25 first life pure human AA in FoTW. I want to twist Otto's and Pin. I've been using Otto's a lot but I've only been able to proc it once against a meaningful mob, (Hound optional in Servants of the overlord)

Any input would be appreaciated. Thank you

    Hi,

Pin works just about every time but the mob must be standing in place. If they have started their run animation it is too late. But you can wait until they go to take a swing at you and then hit em.

Otto's is a less reliant but you have to hit them while they are moving iirc. While it's a little less reliant it procs a lot. I would say keep practicing it.

Neither one of them is supposed to have a save, so they should work all the time if you hit the mob under the right condition, i.e. moving or standing still. It won't ever work on red names or purple names, but does work on orange names.

Also i noticed times when i was using it and it didn't seem to proc when it should. I think it was because i was getting grazing hits. I know my archer got grazing hits pretty consistently on 5's and below. So the only thing i can think of to make it proc more often other than your own timing would be to raise your to hit value.

I noticed that PIN works on some red names (EE Crucible)... it doesn't slow them down like orange and below but seems to slow them down slightly.

First, there is a slight (1 second or so) delay between when you hit pin or otto's whistler and when it makes the check on the enemy to see if they're moving. First, if you just shot an arrow, you have to wait for the reload and next shot before the attack goes off. Then there is also the fraction of a second it takes for the arrow to go from your bow to the enemy.
And then there is latency. So if an enemy that was moving just stopped half a second after you hit otto's whistler, it probably won't work. And vice versa.

Generally, those abilities get easier to use with practice. Mainly, try to pin casters and archers, as they are usually stationary unless they are within melee range of you or too far away to cast many of their spells. Hit enemy melees with otto's whistler while you kite them.

Some enemies are immune to the abilities. Stuff that's immune to other forms of dancing will also be immune to otto's whistler. I don't know if there's a simple rule for what's immune to pin, but a few sample enemies are elementals, ghosts and beholders.

What class are you using this on?

If it's a repeater you also have to use the ability after you've done the reloading animation but before you fire the xbow or it'll be wasted. It's why I don't take such abilities on an arti.
