okay, this was something that I noticed right away. I have the client windowed and the re-roll loot button is there but the cost is a little hard to see.

Axebiter, Cujo, Runeforge, Runefury, Runegoth, Runehealer, Runehamer, Runehorde, Runenight, Runesongs, RunezephyrAnd the forgotten: Runeaura, Runedevourer, Herstinkie, Runewolf,Caught somewhere between casual player and power gamer.
Aslo, if you cant pay it, dont. I dont see what is the problem whit that. If they want the price to be 1000$ per roll, its ridiculous, and probably nobody will use it, they will probably change it back later. I personally doubt I will use it too myself, but I dont want it to be 1AS either. Never understood why ppl are crying has as soon as they see someone else getting some ice-cream (Thinking about wayfinder whit their +10%) at most, it will add more XYZ items in the game, lowering its price slightly so you can buy it at the AH (or even at the ASAH?)
You guys dont want P2W, but want stuff that will make a big difference for cheap. At 50AS, ppl wont use it on all the good chest all the time, its quite expensive. If it was 5AS, only people who pay good would be able to keep using the reroll option all the time...
And, on top of that, like Hendrik said, they are placeholder numbers...
My own issue with this feature is the lack of a confirmation button. I hit it on accident last night, much to my surprise. They have indicated that it is a placeholder value so the feature could be tested, so I'm not going to go on and on about the current cost. They'll iron that out once they have it working.

They have to make money so they can keep the game going and keep adding new content. I don't have any problem with the option and as noted, the current cost is a placeholder value.
What I would like to see is that it become slightly less prominent. The loot all button should remain large and in the center of the bottom of the chest window. Put the Reroll loot button on the side or top and make it so it is NOT the default option. This will hopefully reduce the chances of someone accidentally hitting it then complaining about the lost shards. And you know someone will do that.
Also, if you really want to go this route, look into adding a Reroll option for quest and chain end rewards.
Going that route, you could give different values to each window. Epic Chests and Quest Chain End rewards would be most expensive to reroll, with chests and end rewards that could reward a named item being slightly lower and finally quests and end rewards with no chance at a named item being cheapest to reroll.
Just a thought
well as I have plenty of AS's I re-rolled every chest in all the quests to see what possible benefit I would have by doing so and the simple answer was NONE as in most cases the loot was worse than what was originaly there.
Im so glad its a test server and not live LOL
I'd consider spending astral shards to reroll loot in a raid **cough** esos shard, encrusted ring, etc... etc...
i have also noted a few things about the re-roll option. Re-roll shows up as an option for chests that drop quest related items.
I have also noted that nearly all of the re-rolls I have done (i did it out of curiosity) gives worse drops nearly every time for the chars with low Charisma.
Of course it is a money-grab. Of course it is P2W. So what?
It still takes two. The one trying to grab (Turbine) and the one letting themselves be grabbed (the players).
If someone wants to spend money on it, more power to them as long as it let's ME enjoy the game as it is.
Noone is forced to re-roll. Anyone does, it's their own business as much as it is their business running the same quest over and over.
To be honest, I'm rather glad you had that experience... I was just coming to express some negative feelings concerning my own experience. I was playing around with it today (down to 9 AS per roll) and every time I used it I got better loot. Far better loot, from my pov. I'm going to try it out later and see what further results I get before leaning too far one way or another.
That said, my thinking is this: As long as it's a gamble, I have no issue with it what-so-ever. I have no problem with the idea of dropping some AS for an occasional chance at getting something better than what I have, knowing that it's far from a sure thing. But, if I'm actually paying DDO for loot, I have an issue. I've bought things from the Store on occasion, but that's a far different thing than having the ability to buy loot in the chest imo. Especially with my experience from today. I opened the chest to find some random POS armor, some bolts, spell mats and some plat. I hit the roll button and got a nice bow with a Red augment slot, an unbound named item (I forget which one atm) that's currently selling for around 200 AS in the Shard Exchange and a few small bits and pieces of 'whatever else'.
