    Default Rebooting Adepts

    Reintroducing Adepts, Thelanis's Mentoring Program
    (Protokon's original thread: LINK)

    Q: What is Adepts?
A: Adepts is a mentoring program for players on the Thelanis server of Dungeons and Dragons Online (DDO).

Q: What are some of Adepts' goals?
A: To teach the newer players all about DDO, from basic game mechanics, to endgame raiding. To provide a large community that newer players can network with, leading to better relations between established veterans and the newer players.

Q: What does this mentoring program have to offer?
A: Adepts provides a group of experienced Mentors who will are happy to answer questions regarding gameplay in DDO.

Players also receive an in-game userchannel that functions as an instance-free "Advice" channel, where players can ask questions about the game. This userchannel is open to the public, and anyone is welcome to join as long as they aren't intentionally disruptive.

    Command line: "/joinchannel Adepts teachme"

Adepts has its own separate forum, at ddoadepts.guildlaunch.com. The Adepts Forum is free, and purely optional. Players may use this to post and engage in lengthy discussions on varying aspects of DDO. All you have to do is register, and apply (recruiting link) to the "guild" and one of the Admin/Mentor guys will accept you shortly.

Q: What are the requirements to participate in Adepts?
A: There are NONE. Players from all backgrounds, playstyles, and experience levels are welcome to participate in the program. All we ask is that players be respectful of each other, and be willing to teach or learn.

Q: Do I commit to anything when I join Adepts?
Nothing whatsoever. Participation in Adepts should be considered a "supplement" to your DDO gaming experience, not a "requirement". You won't be required to participate in raid workshops or other program events, or be kicked from the program if you can't. We hope that Adepts will be a tool that will be available to you whenever you need it.

Q: What does it take to be considered a Mentor?
A: There is no official definition for Mentor, but we consider mentors experienced players who have the ability to patiently and respectfully answer questions whenever they have the opportunity to do so.

If you have any questions about participating, or would like to help as a mentor, feel free to contact me or one of the other mentors.

    Current Mentors:
    • Aidionus
    • Altablade
    • BOgre
    • Cryohazard
    • Kategaris
    • Thalone

Sure thing. The forums are still being worked on, but I'll get some information on that hopefully soon. We can at least get you hooked up with the in-game userchannel. Its open to anyone as long as people aren't intentionally disruptive.

Default I'd Love To Be A Part Of This.

I'd love to be a part of this.
To be taught how to play the game. Because I've honestly been winging it since day 1. I have not read the forums because I'm fairly new to the game and have been told to build a character based on what I want to do.

I'm a returning player and I'm super interested in this project. I'm not incredibly knowledgeable about the game, or the best geared or the best played, but I'm always up for learning and doing more. At the moment I work ~300 hours a month and only get internet access 1 day in 5, but in the fall I should be around more.

We also need some more mentors that are very patient and willing to teach new players the ropes. Also I think having mentors with different playstyles (casual vs. powergamer) and focuses (Raiding, TR Leveling, Character Builds, Game Mechanics) is a healthy thing for a broad member base.
I wouldn't consider myself a 'Mentor' by any stretch of the imagination, but there are a few raids I can run in my sleep, and a few others I'm fairly comfy with. As for mechanics, I have a good handle on 99% of the game's ins and outs. In regards to builds, I mainly play my Ranger, and can tell you just about anything you need to know about building a Tempest, and have a good idea about AAs also. I have a lvl 23 Rad Servant, an 18 Shintao, and a multi TR'd Barb, so I can answer questions and give fair advice about those.

I ALWAYS have Adepts channel visible, so will be happy to help with raids and advice when asked.

p.s. the Adepts program has been invaluable to me over the last couple years, great group of people, super helpful and fun. Happy to give back in any way I can.

Funnily enough, Belg, I don't really "feel" like a mentor either. There's several parts of the game where I'm not strong at, and I'm still trying to learn. I do try to frequently provide good advice when asked, and I think that's all an Adepts mentor needs to be able to do: leave any ego at the login screen and provide a friendly and patient learning environment for people who want to learn.

And thanks to the rest of you guys who expressed interest in participating. Don't worry about past experience or available playtime. It isn't really an issue. We're just trying to provide a network of players that can help you whenever you're online.

Update: We're pretty close to having an operational (and spam-free!) forum. Hopefully, it'll be set up so mentors can post guides or schedule workshops and everyone can discuss various game concepts.

    Default Collaboration

    Hey Cryo,

I’m happy to hear that you are considering expanding the scope of the Adepts program to include game mechanics, and a lot of “new player”centric topics. There is a lot of synergy between what you are doing with Adepts, and what I’m trying to do with Monarch. Knowing what Adepts was all about, I started to put together a structure for the “beginner”, with the idea of “bridging the gap”. I’ve put together a guild site that integrates a “mentoring”section. I’d love to get together with you and do some collaboration. The site is still being put together and unregistered users will not see any of the structure at this point, but I’ll make some of the areas accessible to the public at some point today. I’ll send you a PM with the URL as a follow up to this post.

I am a current member of Adepts, probably more mentee than mentor, but I'll be happy to help out. Sounds great to get the Adepts program really kicked back into high gear.

I was in the adepts channels a long while ago, but unfortunately you lose all your chat channels when TRing, and I didnt bother to rejoin... I might rejoin the channels and log in now and then, but due to family I cant be online too regularly, and Ive found a nice german language guild inbetween so I wasnt really desperate for socializing. Still, I think Ill rejoin the channels and maybe help out or hop in now and then.

Mule, that sounds great! The collaboration and networking will hopefully be a key feature of Adepts. We have several guilds represented in Adepts currently (Renowned, Madborn, The MoD, and some others that slip the mind). It would be fantastic to see the newer players and guilds get plugged in with the veterans, and vice versa. We're still deciding on forums, so I'll get back to you on that. In the meantime, hop in the in-game channel when you get the chance!

There is no time or experience requirement to participate in Adepts, so feel free to hop in whenever you can. Current goals are to provide an instance-free "advice" channel and help network players and "bridge the gap" as Mule said. But remember, a marriage is only as good as the effort put into it.

Good deal, I'll definitely hop on the channel tonight. I have a separate forum set up on the Monarch guild site for the mentor program I was working on. Feel free to use that if you like, or participate as a mentor when things get going :-). I've made the Mentor section of the forum visible to the public, all you need to do is go to the site ( LINK ) and hit the forum link. Adepts is such a valuable program for the server, I'm sure we can pool our resources and help a lot of folks become solid players with great attitudes! Thank you for all you do!

HEY. No one mentioned marriage. You're doing your own laundry. Are we clear on this?

Alright guys, I think we now have an operating forum: (LINK)

Just a couple of notes. Its a Guildlaunch forum, free for anyone to use, and purely optional. All you have to do is register, and apply to the "guild" and one of the Admin/Mentor guys will accept you shortly. We'll probably just be using it for posting character builds, scheduling raid workshops, or lengthy discussions on game mechanics or anything DDO related.

    OP Updated.

Btw, if you would like to be officially labeled as a mentor, let me know, and I'll add you to the list.

    Default Trainees reporting for class...

I'm part of a small guild that just finished the pre-flagging quests for Vault of Night. There are 6 of us, a little too small to just go it alone. The few of us that have done this quest were in typical 'keep up and don't die' pugs a long time ago. We are level 9-12; somewhat undergeared, but eager to learn. This group typically runs on Monday at 9pm est; but with a few days warning could probably make most any day. Look for 'The Silver Dragon Kindred'. Thanks for this opportunity!!
