    Default Hacker Alert!

Have just chastised my son for letting out my acount information to a character on the Thelenis server...

Luckily he incorrectly spelt my details wrong and I've since changed my password.

He says the character was [removed]-soemthing last in the Wayward lobster...

    Found him... [name removed]

Seems a young kid that wants to play high level charcters... Still should be cautioned about asking for account details.

Luckily no damage was done to my account, but I think the moderators should check it out...

    Cheers

probably a good idea to log an in-game ticket so the DM's can take any appropriate action.

Damage may be done to your account if you keep publicly naming the guy. Sadly public name n shame is against the forum rules, your best bet is to report the person ingame.

Why does your son have your account details? I'd get him his own f2p account.

Firstly, it's a sad situation, but you do yourself harm by naming the potential hacker. Odd world we live in, huh? I'd put in an harassment ticket or PM/email a moderator to look into the situation further.

Also, it's probably best that your son learns very early in life the importance of keeping private information private. The amount of damage that can be done later in life by slipping more important passwords can ruin a life and make you feel like a criminal as you become subject to lengthy credit checks for day to day activities. Again, odd world we live in where innocents can suffer more than the criminals responsible, who can't even be named.

I've removed the name of the alleged person who asked for the information. If this happens to you, make sure to report the person requesting your personal information through the proper channel (In-Game Harassment ticket, or a ticket through support.turbine.com.) We can't allow people to call out others for alleged actions on the forums, as this is not a court of law nor a trial, and it's problematic to allow people to call out others for alleged grievances without proof.

No. Read the part about this not being a trial or court. We do not allow people to call out each other on the forums for negative attention.

Thanks anyway. Just wanted to put out a general warning and I apologise in advance for probably going about it the wrong way.

As for other accounts... My son was playing on his account at the time (probably why he got my details wrong) and he shall be severely moderated in the future.

For further interest, I should learn how to PM ingame a moderator. Is there an instruction on how to do this? I have been in groups that have done it to correct in game bugs to complete quests, but don't know how to do this myself.

    Cheers.

Ok now whilst my account is as safe as it can be changing my passwords, I have discovered my Son's account to be Banned this morning when he tried to log in (seems he might have given his details out, he doesn't remember).
Now we can still log in with his account with the forums, but he has no options for posting or replying in the forums.

Not wanting to put his account log in on this forum, is there a way of notifying and finding out what has happened with his account?

    Thanks in advance.

I'd like to see precise instruction too because, Cordovan, if you do mean contacting a GM, that's currently locked out for people who haven't spent enough money recently enough, and you need to provide a solution for them as well. Well, us, now, because it's been a year since my last purchase.

The in game help is not allowed to help with banning issues.

You will have to call Turbine if you want fast resolution.

To have your son's ban looked into, you'll need to get in touch with In-Game Support through support.turbine.com (not using the in-game help menu.) Send in a ticket to In-Game Support, there's a drop-down option for Ban Appeal.

Sometimes people get confused between an in-game help ticket and a support ticket. You can not PM a GM in-game directly, but you can get in touch with the GM team through a support ticket filed at support.turbine.com. Additionally, Account Support and account-related matters are available to every player regardless of their current account status (free, VIP, Premium, without regard to money spent.)

    Thanks for the (prompt!) clarification.

Hopefully I'll never need that information, but it's the kind of thing you want to know in advance just in case. So far I've evaded the "Dad, what's my password" questions, but eventually I'll roll a 1.

He unfortunately already rolled the one...

But while Dads account seems fine (black marked, but justified), the unfortunate thing is that while he stands corrrected, I has been DDOless for over half of my school holidays with a banned account with no notification that anything had been changed. (clever hacker changed the e-mail, so there was no indication that any changes to the account had occurred).

I am also concerned that that it states account grievances can only be undone a week after hacking/tampering. Being 2 weeks old now and still no work from Turbine, I'm hopefull that my TPs are still intact (wishfull thinking maybe)... Though at this stage it would be good for me to be able to play again.

At least I've got Minecraft while I wait, but not the same

    Yeah good one mate. haha.

Ok, I better start with introductions.
I am the guild leader and friend of Zareeth.
His kids and my kids play DDO, and our guild Harvest Masters is our little club.
From now on when talking about this account in question i will use the name FRED

We as a guild all love DDO, it's a great game. But I find your canned response very concerning. Zareeth has been playing DDO for longer than I have and I have been playing since June-July 2010. To talk about this ingame support system as though it A) works and B) is intuitive is laughable.

We have been very lucky in that our game experiences have been such that we have not needed your in-game GMs. At the same time you as Turbine are trying to make DDO more user friendly, so i'm telling you, this is one area that needs help.

    Right, on to the issue.
We are in Australia so we would like some way of contacting you other than an internation phone call please. Our member "FRED" has received a ban on his account, with no warning, no ingame message, no email.

On the matter of banning, we only assume it is a ban. Again the words "Warforged..something...something..banned" after logging in and appearing on the server login page is not really new user friendly.

We did some digging into "FRED"'s account and I directed his father into the account/forum login section. He loves to play the game and has never used the forums, etc and yes I helped him buy the first and second expansion. So we are not freeloading F2p's.

The digging found that the email address had been changed in "FRED"'s account, so I would ask at the very least could you resend these emails that will, now i'm only assuming here, detail the said offences please.

Ok the final matter of the support ticket.
We have done that and received ZERO, I repeat ZERO, communication on this except an email notification that it was received. This has been the only communication we have received ever.

Interestingly enough each time I login to my account and get in game, the words. "support ticket cannot be completed" or words to that effect. Is this related? idk. Was i logged into my turbine account when Zareeth submitted the ticket from the support page from turbine.com? maybe. Either way, very cryptic and not very user friendly.

    Thanks for reading this far.
I hope this can be at the very least explained to us and hopefully fixed very soon.

    Cheers

BTW: FRED and our other younger members are learning a very good lesson here, so at one positive has come from this.

I have used ingame support before and it worked fine.

I think I used the support website once or twice and it worked as well.

This is no hacking, this is social engineering. There is nothing technical or IT about it, it's just someone manipulating you.

Bankers and lawyers are not hackers, are they?

And like bankers and Lawyers, they prey on the weak or those unable to comprehend all the rules...
