    Cool Best First Life

    Hey there!
So I am trying to get into DDO, and the character creation is very very fun, but extremely difficult. I usually screw up my characters insanely. Anyways, I need a solid build desperately. It should be:
    *Good all-around
*Self-healing (through UMD, clickies, wands, or spells)
*Good at meele (so it has to have some strength)
*Tough (no 150 hp end game builds)
Also, I need a lot of advice on servers. Which are the best? Why? etc. etc.
    Thanks in advance!

Are you brand new to the game and as such are you free to play or have you bought anything at all just so we know what races/classes/build points we have to work with.

I am sort-of new. I know how to acquire some wealth, and know low-level quests well. Also,
I am free to play, but I have 32-point and the monk class.

You haz ze monkeys? Then why're we having this discussion?

    More questions.. any tomes?
    Are you adverse to splashing?
How well do you want to self heal? Complete quickened 700s? Or a more modest ~200ish, which, to be fair, won't work in epic elite, just epic hard.
Just off the top of my head, 18/2 cleric/monk would be my first life (if I could go back)

if you like to solo or go in small groups, cleric 18 / monk 2 would be cool, a pure cleric however with some Str (14ish) could be better if you go with full groups, as new clerics might have harder time keeping a group healed with low SP, especially with 2 splashed levels. Pale Master 18 Wizard / 2 Rogue (Or even Human 19 Wizard 1 Rogue with Insightful Reflexes feat) is self healing and can solo most anything. Adding 12-14 Str, Master's Touching Greatswords works awesome too.

As a new player, a Bard seemed like the logical choice for me as I wanted an all around Melee - Caster - Self Healing class, but I didn't find it as strong as the Cleric & Wizard.

Monks still don't have the self healing though. You can get a little bit with the Light monk but I think you'd still be reliant on a healer, especially because its a melee class, unless you have high AC. I haven't tried doing it with a monk yet though.

I'd debate cleric/monk, I'd much rather have one of those than a 'proper' cleric. Tiny bit of sp for more dps and CC? Sure!
However, on the monk note, I'm going to disagree here. My first life monk was self healing into eHard (he wasn't viable for EE, mostly a lack of experience on my part), and he was dark. Because.. 25% incorp. Yeah.
If I can tank/kite/dps elite harry with just one wizard, I'll stick by the argument that monks are self-healing. *note. This is without rejuv cocoon or fast healing. Or any twisted healing stuff. If only I could go back and have done that stuff.
(Yeah, we had a big wipe. I was the only person without a death. Did I mention my monk had raise scrolls? :3)

This is a very good build for new players.

i have no experience with a cleric/monk but my first life was a cleric and without experience and cash, i was expected to heal alot of other not so experienced players, and i was always finding myself lacking SP with 1 splashed level. So im just basing this off my experience as a first lifer with no prior funds..

If a monk is self healing then he can only do it by scrolls right? And thats towards end game. As a first lifer with a monk, i had to spend a lot on bringing my own pots and eventually stopped at level 10 due to his lack of self sufficiency. This is just from a newbie point of view.

My monk was Helf with cleric dilly, so it could use cure [various word] wands from early levels, and got scrolls rather early on. Even without the dilly, he was pretty good with potions, healing for 50 on a cure serious, and over 500 on S.F. (now, THOSE are late game, at least on a first life). And no, a monk can be self healing through epic destinies, though it's not viable for 1-20. Funnily enough.

And in regards to sp/level as a multiclassed cleric, I've never found it an issue, though all but my first caster came mostly pre-geared. Still, I've had more than one cleric admit they're new, and I've not cared. Happy to teach them what I can, and if they aren't a great player, bah! I wasn't when I started. (even now, I call myself competent. And that's on a good day!)

I can get tomes, just not up to +4, and only like 3-4 +3.
    I love splashing. :P
I am fine with a modest 200ish, because I will not do a ton of Epic content.

Thanks for all of the replies! It has given me a lot to think about.
