As the title says, the launcher is freezing after downloading prerequisite software - only text being shown is

Game Progress: Status:

Can't click on any of the buttons and requires task manager to shut it down (trying to close from the taskbar just plays a sound and does nothing else). The launcher was working fine the last time I played a bit after the MotU expansion was released.

We're using a 15gb/mo net plan at the moment and I don't have a spare copy of the installer on me so a reinstall is out of the question. I'm using Windows 8 at the moment and none of my system specs have changed since the game was last run so I'd be surprised if that was the problem. I've had no luck finding similar cases although I expect I might be searching the wrong things, any links or information that could be used to resolve the issue would be greatly appreciated.
