Launcher Stuck at Checking Dat Files

I have an old MacBook from i think 2008 and I wanted to play DDO. However, when I try to run the game, it loads normally, but then gets stuck when it says "Checking dat files." I left it running overnight, and nothing changed. I tried downloading it from both steam and Turbine to get the same result. I would really appreciate someone helping me to get it running without using a parallel Windows machine.

I am having the same problem. I'm trying to run DDO for the first time, using an iMac with OSX 10.8.4 and a 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5. Has anyone solved this problem?

I understand this is all the way in May, but I have the same issue. Stuck at 77% for checking .dat files. Only thing I managed to figure out is it is related to (possibly) my router. If i connect directly to my modem I can load the launcher fine. If I connect via wire or wirelessly to my router, i get stuck at 77%. I tested the launcher over at an establishment that has free WiFi and was able to connect fine.

I did a hard reset to my router (in case a setting was changed) and no luck on connecting, even updated the firmware.

I have a slightly annoying internet company, so unsure if they're tampering. Darn you Comcast!!!

There was another thread with Mac users having issues launching the game. They fixed it by reinstalling the game and moving it to the applications folder.

I'm not a Mac expert, so I'm just repeating what I read when they said they fixed it.

I am on (yuk) Vista platform with my laptop. I received the same problem of getting stuck at 77%. Your solution to the "work around" fixed it. That is until it was ready to launch and then the program crashed saying I am not on the right client. No idea what is wrong. I hope I will not have to re-download.

yes I have Vista on a laptop and am still having the data file problem ... have reinstalled (chewing up my monthly download allowance) and still the same problem

I have the same problem for a while as well,

Win7x64, 12GB ram, Corei7 920, ati 5850.

Before todays patch i used to do the trick of opening the launcher twice shutting down the stuck one and the logging in the game but now i am told i do not have the latest game version.

lets see if we all have same antivirus and firewall.
Avast free + outpost paid.

all programs from ddo folder are allowed complete access in outpost, and avast is setup to never check the ddo folder currently residing in a vertex 4 ssd.

some things i did trying to solve this. That didnt work

I made a back up of every file but the following

and i deleted everything but the DAT files. the game asked me those to be able to get the launcher running, and updating. DID NOT WORK

Permisions.

Added everyone in the permisions folder of the game and the its child folders and files. DID NOT WORK

ok i did some testing from an earlier version of ddo i have installed on a mechanical hard drive.

I swapped my "updated" dat files with ones that have missed 2 patches.

Guess what? No update took place. which is weird in it self. monday was a patch day so something must have changed, but this did not happen this time around. now i know that some dat files were accessed on patch day since i asked a few of my guildies for a screenshot of the game dat files.

So does the Launcher check for upgrades or does it not? 2 things cross my mind here. In firewall of the PC all ddo programs have allow TCP, allow UDP.

now in the router. that is another issue. I have the same router for the past 3 years. a vigor 2700VG made by draytek. only now i have flashed the original firmware over the greek firmware of some company which was giving them away. how ever after checking a bit more, i found out in the firewall setup there was a checkpoint for dropping non http connections in port 80. once i unticked that guess what. the launcher is downloading file 505 of 992.

So it would seem that the launcher NEEDS to be able to connect on port 80. the other ports are not configured. i just enabled non http traffic on port 80.

so i passed every check, the client started loading, but now the client is not responding right before character selection. i think i saw a post about that in the forums as well.

Ok after an hour of gaming and some more tests, it seems the 1s time i go to character selection the game crashes but if i close the client and then relog i go on just fine. Also no more stuck at checking dat files. So for me the launcher could not access port 80. check yer connections people, routers have firewalls these days as well.

I have the same issue, I put a ticket for this in Support.
But, by pure accident, I found a workaround:

1. Run launcher, it gets stuck at 77%. Keep it open.
2. Run it once again while keeping the first one open.
3. The second one gets past this silly problem.
4. Now important, before you log in and run the game from the second launcher instance, close the first one, as it blocks access to the .dat files.
5. Log in and play.

Hope this helps in the meantime, before Support fixes the real issue .

thanks this work around appears to be working for me. LOTRO launcher gets hung up to, and I can connect to both games using my cell phone's mobile hot spot.

First off, I know I didn't make it clear, but I was playing on a Windows 7 Machine.

Secondly, I'm not entirely sure how I got it fixed, but here are the things I did

1) After researching on the DDO and LOTRO forums (both games were giving me the same problem), I heard several people mention that they had luck opening 2 instances of the launcher. When the 1st launcher hangs up, they opened a second, which worked, and got them to the log in screen. They closed the 1st, and logged in on the 2nd. I had mixed results with this. It worked for me at first, but I had to run off to work, and didn't really get to play. When I got back that night, it would get me to the log-in screen, but after logging in it would say that my client was not up to date.

2) I was able to log into both games and play via the hotspot on my cell phone. This helps confirm the likely cause, which I will get into shortly.

3) I finally decided to call my Hotel's ISP, because I had also heard of issues like this that were caused by blocked ports on the router, thus, some people having this issue while at home. But this also seems to collaborate what Turbine has told me, which I will post below. Anyway, the Hotel ISP said they DID/DO NOT block any ports. They asked for my IP Address and physical address, and what games IW as a trying to play. I told them both DDO and LOTRO (using the full proper name) and like magic the games would launch correctly.

So after relying all of the above things to Turbine technical support, I got the below email from them:

Thank you for your request.

What that typically indicates is that the systems connection was either directly using or was passing through a proxy server that does not support how the game launcher connects and authenticates (Soap/http1.1) while patching at the 77% stage.

Most hotels do use proxied internet connections and they are generally squid proxy hosts. If possible contacting the IT team at the location to ask for *.ddo.com and *.turbine.com to be added to bypass rules for the proxy allows the launcher to connect.

Likely they added the URL's to the exceptions list so that they did not use the proxy, no ports are used beyond the standard http/https 80 and 8080 respectively at that stage of the launcher but it's functions make some connection requests that a squid based proxy host does not process.

I have an old MacBook from i think 2008 and I wanted to play DDO. However, when I try to run the game, it loads normally, but then gets stuck when it says "Checking dat files." I left it running overnight, and nothing changed. I tried downloading it from both steam and Turbine to get the same result. I would really appreciate someone helping me to get it running without using a parallel Windows machine.
