Default To return or not return???

    Hello everybody,

My guildies and I quited DDO after the expansion pack, because we didn't like the new stuff, too laggy, many bugs too. Also because the gameplay became too casual. Well, I'm a hardcore player, I like though challenges and the hard-to-get itens, but with the new content the game (much easier epic difficults) that wasn't availble anymore.

DDO is also one one the kind MMORPG, I DO like it alot. After these months jumping from one game to another, I may want to come back and set up my guild again, but this time only for EPIC ELITE QUESTS.

So, do u guys think it worth the shot? Or DDO is a rooting MMMORPG faded to death?

I really would like some feedback from my feelas thelanis players

    Regards,

DDO will hang around for years...just as asherron's has. Once the novelty of Neverwinter wears off, people will trickle back to DDO. DDO may never be the biggest or shiniest, but DDO is not going away.

How on Eberron are you defining "casual" and "hardcore"? Time played? Presence on forums? Use of FotM builds? TRing or not TRing?

You can make the game easy. You can make the game hard. Adjust according to preference.

Trying to set up a guild for EPIC ELITE only probably won't do so well. Most characters will need to run other stuff to get to the point of being able to do them. Most of the characters currently able to do EE content are happy running with their current guild.
Advertising as an EPIC ELITE-only guild is likely not going to attract the sort of people that many would like to share a guild with.

No doubt of that. As I said, I still like DDO. Also I would add that DDO is much much better than NWO.
Most of the people that I spoke with said that the LFM is empty, and server populations are decaying. That's why I created this topic. I will consider that you think it worh the shot then.

I'm not here to argue what's the concept of casual or hardcore and ****. I asked: does the game worth of coming back??
Also, my guild doesn't recruit, its more a family than a guild, so I don't care if I don't attract more player with my new policy of EE.

    Ty for your replies

    Regards,
This is simply my opinion and I won't try to claim otherwise.

I'd say as it currently stands, probably not.

Turbines current design direction when it comes to difficulty and Epic Elites is essentially ramping up the Challenge Rating of mobs. It's not uncommon to fight CR 54+ mobs in EE's.

This essentially means that many functions simply don't work or are very ineffective or inefficient, such as AC, DC based casting etc.

Epic Elites these days basically boil down to carrying a dozen Displacement Clickies and maxing your damage. Personally I find that boring rather than a challenge but your milage may vary.

    I see...

I also would like to ask how is the server population, lag and bugs???

One of the bugs that made me quit was the ranged attack bug, all the rolls down to 8 were misses. I presume they already fixed that.

Server population feels down to me, less guildies are logging in or are logging in less frequently than they used to, my Friends List is almost entirely red and there seem to be much less LFM's up from what I can see but I don't PuG anymore so take that with a pinch of salt.

Lag, seems about the same as always, ebbs and flows, there's always lag in DDO.

Bugs...well, put it this way when Motu came out they introduced an Epic Feat called Combat Archery. It still doesn't work.

They did fix the needing to roll an 8 or higher to hit mobs, I remember that well and I also remember swearing like a trooper at the time.

*Edit* Before you think more about whether to come back or not, I'd advise having a look through the Lamm Forums at the new Enhancement pass, it's only in Alpha so there's a vague possibility that it might change, (Though this is Turbine and they don't tend to back off ideas easily), but it does show the way Turbine is thinking.

If you did not like the expansion then, I doubt you will like it now and it is half the end game.

You can set up your guild to play heroic casual only too , it is up to you

Asking people to return or not is weird. If they didnt like the game they wouldnt be here to reply to you.

I liked the expansion and the content, I didn't like the bugs that came with it and the new epic difficulties. Actually I'm over the epic difficulty now, only the bugs, lag e low server population worries me. When Turbine released MotU the quests from this pack were bugged as hell and the lag were terrible, due to that the server population decreased a lot.

Over the 9 months, I've (my guild and I actually) been jumping from one mmorpg to another and I came back to DDO, do u know why? Because DDO is awesome.

Also, I would like to say that I'm not here to discuss my new guild standards.
If you don't mind, I would like to stick with my question: Concerning lag, server population and bugs, how is the game so far? Does it still worth to return??

The simple fact is, if you are always going to play as a hardcore endgame type player, you will always get burned out in a game. It dosent matter the game.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that type of player, I'm just saying it comes with the territory. If you constantly grind the same content and get the best stuff, eventually it will be very easy for you and you will get bored. Just like I, as a casual player, will probably never see much end game content because I can never get that far.

Come back to DDO. Wait until the expansion. It dosent really matter, its a F2P game. It will be waiting for you when you get back, no matter how long or how many times that is. You wont have an issue finding the hardcore players, though making a guild for it seems a bit excessive.

Well, I just returned and I just TRed my healer.
Server population looks okay for me, many LFG ups. Lag as used to be and I not yet faced any bug.
I hited on a Elite Chrono, but mostly of players didn't know what they were doing, I believe the main problem was the lack of the leadership (pt leader wasn't doing his job).

Overall, the game looks okay I also would like to say OH GOD! It feels good to return. \o/ \o/ \o/

Personal opinions here - please take them as such.

1 - Server population seems good to me - PuGs fill fairly quickly for the most part, and there's plenty to choose from during peak hours EST.

2 - Epic Elite groups can be hard to come by as Guilds tend to run together and there are private channels that are "invite only" where the better players on the server tend to hang out and group together to avoid the drama and questions that come with PuGs.

3 - Most bugs aren't game breaking like the ranged attack bug was. They come and go - every update attempts to fix some bugs and usually creates a few more.

4 - Epic Destinies has blurred the line between "casual" and "hardcore" players, as has end game loot and the Astral Shard Auction House. The good news is that the "Best" end game gear is now divided into EPIC, Epic Hard, and Epic Elite depending on the level of the quest you obtain the loot in. EE Gear is usually worth the grind it takes to get it.

5 - I'm not one that runs much in Eveningstar - I like Eberron. But for me content is content - I'll run it all. There is another Forgotten Realms expansion coming out later this summer so if you like that content, there's more to be had.

6 - Lag - I rarely get it and I'm running on a 3 year old laptop. When it happens, it sucks and it usually affects the whole party and instance...sometimes it's server wide, but that's usually only when the server is crashing.

7 - There is an enhancement pass coming SOON... but who knows if that means 3 monthe, six months, a year, or more. I played around on Lamania when the public alpha was going on and I let me feelings about many things be known...hopefully there are some tweaks and some major changes before the next trial, Beta, and eventually it going Live.

8 - Take a few minutes, update your client, and jump in the game. Personally I think end game is better than it ever has been. It's still grindy, but that's what alts are for (keep 1-2 toons at cap and run other content with alts when you get bored with end game) The new raid is a blast when done right and can be a disaster if even one person doesn't understand what to do.

I'm personally enjoying DDO now more than I have since before MoTU was released.
