Question Need help with a Light based Human Monk. 34 points. +2 tomes in each stats.

    Hiyas.

I am LRing my human monk (dark) because I have another monk (dark) who has reached the same level.
I would like to make a character that I can solo run Hard quests when no one else is on.

Ive never had much luck with Light monks but I dont think i was building them right. Starting stats always seem to confuse me.
So yeah, 34 point build, Human, +2 tomes read for all stats.
I will be using Stunning Blow and Stunning Fist.

What can you suggest? Starting stats and AP and Skills.

    Thanks.

Well, 1st off we need more info about your monk. What level is he atm? Whats your aim with this monk? Are you planning to stay in EPICS or gonna TR after hitting 20?What past life do you have on this monk?

Whats your play style? What stance are you normally in?What do you wanna achieve with this monk?
Strength based, dex based or wisdom based? Any idea what feats you looking at lvl 21 and 24?
Kinda hard to help you without knowing 1st what you require of this monk.

Why stunning blow? Can your DCs for it be viable?

    Feats wise : 7 Normal + 1 Human + 3 Monk + 2 Epic = 13 Feats
Essential Feats(to me) : Toughness, TWF, ITWF, GTWF, Improved Critical, Power Attack, Stunning Fist, Improved Sunder
That's 8 feats there. You can get Precision or Cleave ( to qualify for Shintao)
2 choices here for Epic feats.
you can go max strength and take cleave + great cleave to qualify for Overwhelming Critical (needs 23 strength) or go wisdom based (min 23 wisdom) and qualify for Improved Martial Arts & Vorpal Strikes.

Personally i would drop stunning blow but that is my opinion.Maybe with more information from you will help us see how to help you out.

My goal is to make him a survivalist. Currently he is lev 14. I dont play him because I have a better dark monk.

I made a temp level 7 light monk following the Shinto path to see what stats i should start with and it automatically gave it Stunning Blow, so I thought thats what feats people put on their light monks.
I dont understand the DC's of a stunning blow.

I would like to stun/paralize/disable enemies. I like to be self sufficient while still being able to kill. Im not interested in doing party buffs.

As for stance, I'm open to suggestion. He was Fire stance last life because he need the extra Ki for Tough of Death.
I usually favour Fire or Wind, but ive never tried the other two.

Default Light monks tough it out!

I love light monks. I have a few of them and let me tell you a fun way to go. Wis/dex builds are the way I go. Also all my monks have whirlwind attack which is soooo much fun. Its a stiff feat requirement , INT 13, Combat Expertise, dodge, mobility, spring attack, BAB 4 and whorlwind last. A pure monk cant get it till lvl 9 because of the bab. If human I also do Weapon finess which uses Dex to hit instead of Str. Dodge, mobiliy and Spring attack all give dodge bonus now so its easy at end game to have 20-25% dodge without to much effort.
Give it a try. Whirlwind is so much fun with frozen tunic and stunning wraps on. sometimes you will WW a mob and be surounded by frozen stunned statues.
    Good luck.

    Elanarak.

Avoid the pre-built paths, they are bad. Not average, bad.

Assuming you are going to stay pure, here's a viable possibility:

Stats: Wis as high as you can get it, at least 16. Dex high enough to qualify for GTWF 15 if you have +2 tomes. The rest in STR and CON.

Skills: Max concentration, at least 10 into jump. The rest into whatever meets your style. I prefer Spot, Balance, Tumble in that order.

Enhancements: Take the healing amp line in order to qualify for Shintao (Rise of the Pheonix is not a good route). I take Grandmaster Earth and Grandmaster Wind. I also take Monkey 2 (or rarely Turtle 2). Get all the healing amp you can for your current race. My WF monk can hit 250% amp and my human can hit 500%. Getting 15 points a swing back in healing with Fist of Light and Vampirism wraps can be huge. I swap gear around to increase DPS when I don't need that much amp. But having it as an option is very useful.

Feats: I use Precision to qualify for Shintao if my race doesnt have Power Attack enhancements otherwise cleave. Toughness, TWF, ITWF, GTWF, IC:Bludegeon are required. I sometimes take zen archery because shuriken stink and a good bow is a much better alternative. EPIC Feats I aim for Vorpal Strikes and Improved Martial Arts.

While Wis/Dex builds are viable, DEX doesn't give you much since the AC changes were made so I'd avoid DEX builds in the game today. DEX builds are viable and likely become more viable whenever the enhancement pass comes out. But in today's game DEX doesn't provide much value so go strength. Note... my two mains are still DEX/WIS builds because I don't want to be forced to level 25 and an LR to make the WIS/STR would force me to level up to 25. All of my newer monks are WIS/STR builds and it works better with the current core mechanics.

Learn to use your finishers when you group up, especially Aligning the heavens and for certain situations Grasp of the Earth Dragon.

Learn what monster are subject to dismissing strike, jade tomb and jade strike. They are very useful against the correct mobs. Kukan Doh at level 18 is the best feature of a light monk and it can have a solid DC even without investing in CHA. When you get a gear set together, make room for a CHA 6. Make sure you have a solid stunning fist DC for end game, something in the 58+ range with wraps works most places but mid 60s+ are much better for EE High Road and EE Gianthold.

I avoid stunning blow on a light monk, my DC's are never good enough to make it land and I already have two solid stuns on a light monk (once you get to level 18).

Looks decent for an basic str dps build, but don't expect much from your stunning fist in epic quests as your wis score is lacking there.

There really should be auto response to every monk thread with " go wisdom " as an answer lol.
"No your frozen tunic will not work, neither will your stun blow or whirlwind of whatever, and no, 55 stun doesn't cut it, you are dead " as post scriptum.
