Meh, not quitting the game, or the forums. Just removing any access for my account to provide any more money to the game.
I've not regretted the money I've spent on this game so far, as it has provided a wealth of entertainment to me. However, after all this has been brought up. Not one Turbine Rep has spoken about it to say anything about security measures. I would have gone on supporting the game I enjoy to play, but that blatant disreagard of my personal informations safety means you don't deserve my support any longer.
Git off mah lawn!
If, If's and But's was Candies and Nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas.
As I said in another post in a thread last week about this....
This has more to do with how I feel about the combination of passwords,a nd the slight chance that someone will gain access to my game account, deleting it/items/etc just as happened to a good number of LOTROP players last year. Turbine clensed the LOTRO forums of that incident,a nd those affected. I know at least some were complainging of the difficulties in having their accounts restored to their pre-hacked status. Although I don't know what he final outcome was for each and every individual that was affected. But after having dealt with Turbine for over 6 years, I can only guess they didn't make it easy...
This change simply makes it slightly more risky as far as individual account info. Something that without explaination from Turbine has no reason to be done, other than some new web guy thinks it a grand idea.
As for the actual CC information, well there wasn't ever any proof that it was everused by anybody after the LOTRO breach... Of course Turbine jumped through hoops to clense any talk of it, or reports of it from the LOTRO forums. I removed my CC information form the Turbine database more out of protest than anything. Since they seem fit to blatantly ignore all inquiries into their customers game account security on this matter.
Will I continue playing.. Who knows..... My VIP sub runs out on the 25th... If I do continue my VIP it will be with gametime codes bought from the DDO market, with 1 time purchases, there will be no info on file with Turbine or their transaction vendor, other than what is held for past transactions. And there will be zero chance of me EVER buying any TP's....
As per Turbines typical behavior.. Silence........ Which is fine.. It simply lessons any confidence in them, and more importantly only reenforces my opinion that the management team in place isn't really proffesional at all.
Just my opinion though...
As someone who has participated in investigations, you are 99.99% wrong (+- .01% - I will leave it up to you to guess which way that goes).
Data mining and aggregation is alive and well. Even their unsecure website for submitting a ticket gives pertinent information used in identity theft.
I know people who had their identity stolen and their credit records ruined - for years (unable to buy a house or even a car).
People are treating this seriously, because it isn't a game.
As both a programmer and trained cyber security professional I have to agree with the silence from Turbine concerning any of their security measures. As soon as you start giving out ANY information concerning how/what/where you are implementing security you are giving information to those that are going to attack you. So from this standpoint I agree with their communications - or lack thereof.
HOWEVER - they could come out with a simple statement to attempt to calm things down along the lines of:
We heard you. We are working on placing security measures in place and understand your concerns.
-- This type of communication would have been simple and effective in keeping some calm. Oh well.
From what I read when I logged onto DDO, the game servers are coming down for a 3 hour period as well. If I recall correctly, last time Turbine played with the account setup the game servers stayed down for 72 hours because there were issues.
I wonder if we will experience the same issues this time.
I guess none of us really said anything about quitting as we still love the game.
We don't even want to know all the security model behind the scene, but there just wasn't even a single word of confidence by them, and this lack of communication doesn't increase any trust...
Well, there won't be any more complaints, even not of a possible extended downtime, because we won't be able to post in the next days anyway, at least in the most part of the forum...
Many of you here who are unhappy at the changes are clearly great fans of the game and love to share your thoughts and ideas on the forum. Turbine or WB have, as yet not responded to your worries, but dont throw in the towel (Even if you could as you are probably as hooked as I am) could this work for you?
Open a new bank/card account, set a zero limit on overdraft. And transfer funds from your real account?
If the forum/ account is hacked, then they would not be able to access very much?
I will continue enjoying the game and deal with whatever, whenever.

Yes, this could absolutely work. So could getting a pre-paid card and reloading it a couple days before your sub is up. There are probably even a few more options one could use as well. Point being, why should we have to jump through hoops to play? The other point is that Turbine/WB has said nothing to quell our fears. Like someone already said, all it would likely take would be for someone, anyone from Turbine/WB to come forward and say something like "Hey it's taken care of. We will have security measures in place to keep your information secure". Of course, if they did that they'd be liable if someone did manage to sneak past their security... I'd be happier with a simple "Hey we're working on it" myself.
