    /Agreed

If I want a prestige I follow the path for the prestige, I dont want to hae to spend exclusive points in a different tree.

I now have to spend 22AP on **** I dont want in the Human tree to get Human healing ampIII that used to cost me 10AP.

This current system screws over multiclass builds as the points spent in each tree are exclusive to the tree and require purchasing unwanted things to unlock access to what we want.... the cost to get you into the good range of each tree is higher than the points we have to spend.

    That'd be a good start.

correct me if i am wrong. Doesn't it take 36 points on live to get all 3 teirs? The recovery itself does only cost 12 ap. But you have points spent to be able to reach each teir. If I remember right you have to spend 30 ap total to be able to purchase the teir 3 amp, then the amp itself costs 6 points. I could be mistaken this is all off the top of my head.

Edit:I do agree that points spent should be across all trees, even if just counts for spent in racial trees, to provide more flexibility for characters in build options. The having to spend it on the racial tree itself to open up the amp does not make for better build options.

The difference is in where you spend those points. Take my Ranger for example. On Live she spent points in Ranger Devotion, Favoured Enemy Damage etc to make up the points needed in order to buy Improved Recovery.

Under the current system on Lamm we need to spend 22 points just in the Human Tree.

Then we need to work on the PrE's, but now only have 58 points left.

Total, yes. The difference being in how much is discretionary, how much is not, and how much is... less so, shall we say.

Yes I know as far as where the points spent. Hence my edit for the first post explaining that I agree it hampers the builds having to just spend it in the human tree and not having it opened for points spent in all trees.

This needs to happen. Restricting game mechanics by art or layout doesn't work. Whoever in management there that thinks layout comes first and restricts rules needs to be fired.

I very much agree with this. The strength of DDO is the ability to customize characters and multiclass. The requirement to spend a certain amount of points in a specific tree instead of across the board will destroy that. It's never a good idea to undercut your main advantage over other games.

Well, firing them may be going a bit overboard. A good beating should suffice.

If you opt out of taking something most people want, that's your prerogative. You may be better off for it, or not. It's a subjective evaluation.

However, now that choice is taken away. How can you say that's a good thing, DDOBard?

It's not just "a certain amount", it's the fact that it's such a huge amount.

5/10/15/20 would make a lot more sense than the current 5/10/20/40

The current trees definately have a problem. The problem here is number of points we have versus the number of points we must now spend. If we recieved 5 ability points per level, things would be more reasonable. If more of the enhancements cost 1 AP and the requirements for going up to the next tree level were reduced, things would also be more reasonable.

Removing the points-in-trees requirements would also improve things by allowing us to be more frugal with points, though at that point the point of the seperate trees would be gone (you'd probably still want to cap the tiers by something... levels in that class perhaps).

As it is, the only way for us to play is to max one of your four trees, and then lament at all the good generalist enhancements we'll never be able to reach because they were arbitrarily placed high up in a different tree of your class.

If you want to be more restrictive, use more icon arrows, but then please, use them to connect the enhancements sensibly.

Great example of what not to do with arrows are some racial core enhancement lines (human & drow come to mind), where completely unrelated enhancements are being forced as prerequisites (i.e.: drow SR is prerequisite for charisma... why?).
    Best i heard so far.
