Default DDO and Openoffice on XP

Am not at the right PC at the moment to test, but I remember last year installing a recent version of OpenOffice and after doing so, DDO wouldn't run. I can't recall what the problem was, but I -think- the launcher got stuck.

Of course I will test this completely when I get to the right PC and have some time, but I thought I'd ask in here in case anyone else came across this and could save me a bunch of time by telling me what they did.

Well, for what it is worth, I am able to run DDO with open office installed on windows 7.

Tried it fresh, worked fine. Took 2 tries to load client, first try paused after choosing server. Maybe that's what happened way back when and I never looked into it further. Probably some minor slow timing issue on this cranky "old" box.

I've got another PC across the room been running Win98 straight for many years. I can't remember the last time it crashed (BSOD). I admit I don't do anything online with it, but still...

If Open Office is still causing issues try Libre Office instead. LO was forked off from OO a couple of years ago and seems to be a) more stable and b) better at dealing with MS Office file structures better than OO (and occasionally MSOffice as well :P)

Well for some of us it's better than Windows Bloatware ( aka Vista and his nephew 7 ) or Windows Tiles ( aka 8 ).
At least now most of the problems have been nailed down.

XP is mostly a GUI revamp of W2K and W2K was quite stable and problem free compared to Vista ( and it needed way less RAM/HD Space to run ).
Now if only I had an option to run DDO on Solaris 10 ( Sparc ).

Thanks Garix - in fact last night while I was testing OO I noticed a document created by "Libre Office" and just (wrongly) assumed it was another expensive variation of Adobe's commercial product.

    I'll check it out!

(and Flavindelle, that's good, Windows Tiles.....)

I love to "toy" with the latest but I prefer to invest and run my "mission critical" (cough cough) stuff on things that have already been tested by others.
