I don't see an issue with a trinket. I can't see most other equipment as reasonable though.
A trinket slot makes sense as for more than that I am kind of meh about.
Beware the Sleepeater
These pets definitely need something...They frequently seem less intelligent than the Cleric hirelings, which at least have the possibility of healing themselves. Don't think it needs to get crazy but one or two universal type slots would be awesome. Upgraded HoGF or the ring from cove event converted to doggy equivalent. (I like the hand warp conversion process....) meaning once it goes to the pet it stays with a pet.
Haven't played someone with a pet recently enough to know, but did the hireling "boost" get applied to pets as well? (something about them having level/class appropriate default gear that included Fort....

My Iron Defender's character sheet still says 0% Fort, but I've never paid attention to see if he's getting hit with crits or not. I usually have my hands full with other stuff. As for the stat items, swapping out the Quorforged Docent of Battle does not lower his HP so that leads me to believe they're already getting +6 CON from somewhere...
