    Default New Build: Rangerchu!

This post was done quickly during my lunch break at work so I will continually update this build and take suggestions into consideration. Consider this post a living document =)

I decided to make a variant of the Moncher because I felt they were too cookie cutter. I wanted something a tad different, so I decided to make an (ELF) 11 (RANGER) variant. Mainly because I hate the way half-elves look and I was told by several people that it could not work with Elf but I beg to differ. For those of you that want to do slightly different than the norm and make ranger a competitive dps with the moncher, I give you the, "RANGERCHU".

Please be gentle this is my first build that I have posted to the forums and I have tweaked it 4 times already using ddochargen.

    ELF

    11 Ranger 7 Monk 2 Fighter

    36 point build

    16 STR + 4 Tome +3 lvl ups
    16 DEX + 5 Tome
    14 CON + 4 Tome
    16 WIS +4 Tome +3 lvl ups

I will break the levels down once I get more time but for now just listing them.

    Feats:

    Toughness
    Point Blank shot

    Stunning Fist
    Cleave
    Mental Toughness, Zen Archery
    Precision

    Great Cleave
    21 - Empower Healing
( friend confirmed that combat archery does indeed not work, might go maximise if more healing is needed. )
    24 - Overwhelming Critical

    Enchancements:

    Arcane archer and all arrows
    Ninja Spy
    Eleven ranged damage II
    Monk wisdom II

    A 36 point build using five +4 tomes and a +5 tome?

I think a lot of "builds" are plausable with those resources at one's disposal.

I understand the ranged concept, but why the Khopesh? With the PA/Cleave/GreatCleave it looks like a THF, and the absence of mobility/sa means you are not a tempest.

I could also create a variant to satisfy people with the tomes at their disposal but I would argue this build is more stat intensive than the moncher.

The kopesh is for leveling because I have 4 greensteal kopeshes and didn't want them to go to waste.

The pa/cleave/great cleave is to satisfy the requirements for overwhelming critical to make up for the lack of master of stone.

Correct I am not going for tempest, this is a EE oriented ranger with from what I was trying to do is include maximum dps. I will mainly be using a pinion and either celestia's or possibly another weapon type not ruling out other weapons and not being centered.

I feel it is a very viable option to the Moncher and you get to be ELF! and a Ranger! I created this build so I could get the Ranger past life.

Well, since AA is a ranger PrE he cannot be both AA and Tempest -- even if AA comes from elf or half-elf racials -- which I assume it does in order to get the full benefit of AA.

Khopesh is (was) widely considered the best melee weapon. So, it makes some sense to take khopesh -- although I think that with latest named items it probably is no longer a best choice.

PA/Cleave/Great Cleave are prerequisite feats for Overwhelming Critical.

There is zero reason to go elf over half-elf. You can also drop your dex since combat archery doesn't work. Other than that, not much to comment, it's pretty cookie-cutter.

I did mention kopeshes are just for leveling. I have two balizardes, two drow kopeshes, two tinah, two nightmares, and I would like to aquire two celestia's. I would agree all of these would be a better choice. I would like to use celestia's to stay centered.

I can do the math but I would argue that half-elves aren't much better for this build. Elves do get 2 damage to range along with 2 damage to certain weapons. Elves also look 9 gazillionbarillian times better. I have played many mmo's and will not make a character if they look awful.

Many of the builds on the forum are variant's of others is mine that unique? I feel it is please link another build that includes elf and 11/7/2 in that order. Once I list the enhancements it will come together alot better. I am not arguing but trying to explain my choices.

You do bring up a very good point about the dex, which may be the case but people say alot of things on the forums and I will verify this personally. I have heard that combat archery doesn't work but the dex will still be needed to maintain the high reflex save that I need for EE's.

I explained the "cookie cutter" portion in the post above. I merely gave people a different option and to spark conversation.

Not exactly a radical departure from other monkchers, but congrats on squeezing in Overwhelming Crit & Combat Archery (if & when it's WAI). Amazing what you can accomplish with 2+ TRs and +4 & 5 tomes, isn't it?

Why base INT 9? You don't take CE, so why not start INT 8 DEX 16? That way you don't have to put a lvl-up into DEX.

If you switch to handwraps later, I recommend swapping khopesh for Stunning Fist.

How much Self sufficientcy do you get out of wholeness of body with only 7 monk? Not arguing usefulness or anything because I've seen it work really well for people. I just kind of wondered.

Oh, and as far as tomes go, if you already have them on your toon, why wouldn't you take advantage of them?

On my 11 ranger 7 monk 2 fighter I found the heals better than wholeness. I rarely wanted to stop and wait that long. Of course, I went WIS and stunning fist route as well (which he has not).

The 7 monk was chosen because it had the most useful enchancement at level, this enhancement being, "Monk recovery II". I have actually never played a monk I just spend alot of time reading the wiki and threw this all together. The rangers devotion combined with the Monk recovery along with the potency of the halycon boots should make for pretty effective healing from spells as well as from cacoon.

I am almost done deciding which enhancements to use I am over by 4 or so.

Ok you're completely right in every way about the stats... changing this in my build thank you!

The proficiency could very well be stunning fist or toughness depending which route I go. Handwraps are still very strong but because of the monk levels I have balizarde or celestia or even nightmare might be stronger.

Looks matter. That is all the reason a player needs.

You won't be centered with Balizarde or Nightware, which means you'll be "bleeding off" ki when you should be regening it during MS/10K cooldowns. Celestia or other short swords are fine w/Ninja I, though with so much WIS, I have a hard time saying "no" to Stunning Fist.

Yeah I have been thinking about this alot and I do have antipode's. I need my reflex saves to be 50+ so wraps might be my best option or celestia. It really nullifies alot of monks ability not being centered so 20+ will use handwraps or celestia's.

First time leveling a monk/range class and all I can say is that range is fairly weak at lower levels. I am even sporting a greensteel lit2 w/ arcane archer imbued arrows. I feel like if I am not multishotting or ten k stars I should be in melee but I think that is the entire point. I never quite understood how powerful monks are first hand, my handwraps even just with 6 monk are destroying things at a fast rate. So far the leveling which I have done solely in groups has gone very easy switching between handwraps and my bow when not on cooldown.

I was also glad to hear that someone from my guild is trying the build! Hopefully it works out for anyone that wants to give it a try.

Quite frankly, low level and range sucks so much ass a donkey would be jealous.

The only low level range that was viable, at least in my eyes, was an arcane who had access to two fast casting eternal wands, and spent AP to up wand damage. Those actually whip off in a pretty reasonable rate. Finger Flar, Acid Splash being two off the top of my head that have fast casting times.

I also normally kept them up through Rainbow in the Dark as they effect also provided a short time light you could see by.
