Default BYOA - Blunt Your Own Ammo

For ranged characters, was thinking a useful enhancement would be the ability to blunt your own ammo. Something like "your skill using ranged attacks has led to your ability to blunt ammunition for use against creatures resistant to piercing". 1 AP gives you the ability, small investments in the "Repair" skill increase the enchantment level you can blunt... so 1 point in Repair allows you to blunt up to +1's, 5 points would allow up to +5, etc.

Warforged would have no issues with this, as most already invest in Repair; but admittedly, squishies will be annoyed at losing an AP and some skill points. Though for use where it really matters (low levels), you'd really only need to invest like 3-4 points.

I'd rather see special blunted ammo introduced into the game via vendors and drops. Blunt arrows have been used in various real world cultures for small game hunting, so it's not even that far-fetched.

Dunno, never played one, just reading on the forums, I see WF investing in it.

I came up with this thought as I was longing for slings and bullets

Blunted ammo... I know there are a few ranged weapons in the game with this property, and I suspend my disbelief because it's "magic", but beyond that, I'm skeptical. There is a reason arrows tend to be pointy--it makes them more effective.

Off the top of my head, I can think of two critter types that have DR/Blunt: Clay Golems and the ever-present Skeletons.

I've always imagined that the golems were of the wet rather than baked variety. Removing an arrow head wouldn't make much difference there.

And unless you put a big-old boxing glove (Green Arrow Style) on the end of your arrow, many projectiles would pass right through skeletons-pointy or not.

(Note, DDO does not have slings.)

Edit--still don't know how to get the image directly in the post.
