and again today - cripling soul crushing lag that effected every one in the instance.

market(2), gianthold, FOT, demon web quests, our air ship.....

I know people are blaming cove right now - but the fact is that these issues exist when there is no event running - they are simply exacerbated by them.

Monday (post-cove) had soul-crushing lag in eh tor. Now, it seems there's always some lag in there, right after killing each dragon/giant, reminiscent of the traditional lag right after killing all the portals in shroud pt1. But this was our whole party frozen, stutter-stepping from the corpse of the ice dragon/giant to the chest. For over fifteen minutes. If i remember right it was i2052 or something - in any case not one of the usual suspects.

Fifteen minutes and a "thanks for filing a report" for our troubles. At least it didn't happen during the fight, and at least we finally got our lootz. And at least I make a habit of always bringing a good book along to read while I "play" DDO.

Over the weekend House Deneith broke for me, and everyone else who was in it. It took 45 minutes to be able to get a /death in enough to get out of there.

At the same time people were complaining in guild chat about Eveningstar public area, GH public and private areas, and a few other locations.

Why does FOT always start in i2049? Lame question I know but I am getting tired of the soulstone creating lag that is often experienced in this Raid. You can't kite when the server stops responding but the trash and bosses still get to beat on your helpless character.

I think the game might be out growing the older PCs and Turbine does not want to admit that yet. I am having zero issues on a new used Win7 desktop rig I just upgraded, but my Win7 Laptop with integrated video is having the slow downs too to a lesser degree and some lag. My XP desktops are really bad for crashes, lag and loading times. Now this is last week before I started working on this new rig, so are things better for you guys? Did not have time to try out my Laptop on the road this week either with my tight schedule.

Is Turbine going to start supporting the integrated Intel video cause it is so dam common on laptops that many games do now? And Laptops out number desktops by a lot now. Do they want that market share???????????????? Heck the only reason I go this new used Desktop rig is cause it was a cheap refurbished PC or it would not be worth the money when you can get a laptop for $300-$400.

I am getting a little tired of the laptop loading times and am looking for a SSD for it now. Maybe a bigger capacity on sale. No rush. I wonder if that will help performance for it with integrated video.

Your machine can make a difference in many things. Having upgraded in the past year I can attest to this. But that's more the case for "perpetual" lag (things like load screens) as opposed to the "situational" lag spikes most people describe as causing quest failures.

When this lag consistently and uniformly affects groups of 6 and 12 random people, eventually you have to admit that the chances that everyone in all these samples are running on subpar machines is nil.

I’m surprised by the lack of deniers, apologists, and player blamers so far on this thread.

Could it be that even the most ardent fan boy can’t come up with a decent excuse for Turbine?

I was pretty ****ed off the last few weeks. Why they ran the Cove after a major update has got to be the stupidest thing I have seem them do so far in the 3-4 years I have been on. Is there anyone with common sense in the Turbine house over there?

The hot fixes came, but not fast enough.

Well, someone over in General Discussion posted that an in-game GM told him that "no one" had reported lag to him.

"Denial"- it's not just a river in Egypt.

Tell you guys the honest truth, between the zoning-in crashes and the lag, I'm thinking it's not a bad time to take a break from the game and just wander here occasionally to see if things improve. I think that the zoning bug can be solved by a new rig, but do I really want to drop the ducats only to have to cotend with something that money- my money at least- can't seem to fix?

Some of what you describe here can be a cause for 'apparent latency' caused by the individual pc's inability to keep up. I am not deny this can be a factor for many, The same is true of 'zoneing crashes'.

Personaly I have a very power full machine (although it is not optimised for gaming). It is a development spec machine that I also use as a server, my internet connection is 60mb down and 20 mb up. I am adept at tracing the network traffic/internet traffic as well as analysing technical issues as I have had to do this profesionaly for several years.

As I stated in my first post - not only do i beleive this issue is on turbines end but I can also prove it. The packet loss/timeout is occuring on turbines servers.

There are times when lag is not 'turbines fault' - the most common secondary cause of lag for me is when the transatlantic link is being maintained or taking priority packets - this shows as a time out(loss) at the ameircan border point. This is clearly indicated by the folowing:
    1. voice chat delays.
    2. game lag for me but not party memebers.

The same can happen if my isp is doing maintenance. In all cases tho when the lag is 'not turbines fault' the symptoms are very different.

graphical lag - which is often confused for network latency in games, has very different symptoms aswell. There is a reduction in frame rate first folowed by a reduction in network performance as the client responds slower. I dont run ddo in max settings, but i get a healthy 60+fps in almost all locations. I agree that ddo no longer meets the minimum system requirements - and these should be updated. That being said they are VERY low spec - and any half decent 5 year old gaming pc can run ddo quite comfortably. A combination of onboard graphics + onboard network causes this issue, the solution is to reduce graphics settings (or upgrade).

Truthfuly I dont even think this is network latency/packet loss. I think its hung threads on the server code that handles instanceing/mob ai/spawning of mobs/loot.

They type their 2049th or 2050th post and are experiencing forum lag. Nothing mysterious going on as we all know on Orien XD.

    Exclamation Lag

The lag on Orien is getting to the point where people are quitting the game and stopping VIP payments..

I have been playing ddo for 3 years now, in that time i have went from a free to play player to vip and now premium with all packs, races, and classes owned.. I have willingly gave money to this game cuz i love playing it but if i can't play it on a count of the major lag that my party gets on a daily bases... then that make me want to stop buying any thing for this game... We as players have tried telling the devs on more then once that the lag is getting to a point where its unplayable... but the devs keep telling us that the game has no lag.... Please turbine listen to your players when we say there is a major lag problem with your game...

This is causing people to leave the game... I know of three friends of mine that have left the game cause of this and I my self is beginning to think of leaving too... I don't want too but every time i play I rage cause of the lag that I and my party are coming across...

This is the age of MMORPG's in 2013 a lot of new Big title's will be released. Just saying

Again Love the Game, HATE THE LAG

Options > UI Settings > Turn off all combat chat feedback - has worked wonders for my lag.

I'm sure someone will try to jump in about my slow client and my crappy ISP so here are my system specs (note I have had the same issue on multiple fast PCS and high bandwidth ISPs as I do not play just at my house).

My connection is 50 MB FIOS. My PC is running Win 7 64bit w 32 GB ram, 256 GB SSD, 3 TB drive, GeForce GTX 660, and an Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5 Ghz.

As I've played a lot to include soloing (recently finished up my completionist) having combat chat feedback turned off immediately ceased all of the bad death lag soloing. And when I am grouped and have everyone turn it off I also have not run into the death lag. Sure in groups there are blips on occasion with this turned off but the difference in lack of lag has been huge.

Not just having lag its the whole party at the same time and we are not talking about in just raids.. this is happening in standard quests... if it was just me i would be looking at my own stuff but its not

Now this IS a useful tip, its something I (and many others) did years ago unfortunately. As I have my combat feedback all turned off then I can assure you its not the casue of the big spikes.

It is however well woth doing if you havent done so yet.

firemedium.. as you seem to be asking people questions let me do the same.

    do you play on orien?
do you raid regularly (eg every saturday)?
if so what raids do you do?
Do you know what i mean when I say i2049 is FUBAR?

The only feasable way the lag were discussing here could be caused by some one having a slow/old pc is if the code is designed such that if one person lags out every one does - That is not the case for ddo - people can DC and every one else can cary on fine under normal circumstances. What were suffering with here is something different - and honeslty its probly hung sever code....appearing as network latency.

Good to hear you are implementing this. I think a lot of people like me that have been playing for around 2-3 years or less may not have been aware of this lag tip. If you come across any other tips that help please get them out to the community. (the above is obviously a server side issue).
