Default Error 417 Expectation Failed .. GRR

Hello all.. I am posting this for my girlfriend, who has just about had it up to ' here ' with it. As am I. We recently started playing about 2 months ago, and love it so much that I got her a two month game time card and myself a regular subscription. However, after the last maintenance update we had ( Patch 17 i think? ) she ran into a problem.. the dreaded Error 417 Expectation failed.. etc etc. We tried just about everything we could think of; we searched all the forums, checked just about everything out... we called her ISP, we have emailed Tech support ( several times.. each email takes about a day or so...)... and a week later, a friend said " uninstall and reinstall ". So.. she did. Much to our delight ( and happiness! ) the game was working again, so we played lastnight. Well.. she was fixing to get back on tonight... and lo and behold.. ERROR 417!

It must be something simple. Or it could be a variety of errors. I just dont even know anymore. Like i said, i checked just about everything out. Firewalls. lan Settings. ISP Firewall. Router firewall. You name it, i checked it. I ran out of effin' ideas. And paid 45 dollars to play. Does ANYONE have the same problems she's having... or is it just her? And if so....

HOW DO WE FIX THIS!?! hehe.... temper tantrum anyone?

I looked around online for information about 417 - its a general error apparently used in a number of places. I saw several places that claimed it was often the result of corrupted (or improperly deleted) system files.

Are you -sure- it happened at the exact time of the update?

Have you done a complete virus/malware scan of her computer?

Have you or her noticed any other issues with her computer, no matter how unrelated they seem? Did you or her load other games or other software onto there recently as well?

Can you tell me where -exactly- the error occured?

    Hello!

From what i can gather from her, it happened after the maintenance was done. The night before the maintenance; no problems. When it was finally done, Error 417. I did ask her the same question you asked me, and she said she had a windows update for Microsoft NET ... but she has since downgraded back to the version that she had it on when DDO was last working. Didnt do anything.

She had done a complete FULL scan of both malware and virus.. .still the same thing. Both updated as well.

She said the computer was running great... no issues.. no problems.. nothing. No inconvenient, inconsistent spikes in the connection....

I did have her run a tracert and it showed a minor hiccup/asterisk going to Cogentco. I thought that might be the problem. But as I said, we did a reinstall, and then it worked fine. She ran a tracert tonight, and everything was normal... no hiccups on any of the hops like she had the last time.

The one thing to remember too is.. today was maintenance update today for a ' hotfix ' , so i read on the forums earlier. I found it rather.... coincidental that after both updates, Error 417 popped up, especially the 2nd time after she had gotten it working for one night.

My understanding of computers is probably rudimentary, but I know enough to know something is seriously wrong and its happening after every update.

The error occurs after she double clicks on the desktop icon. First thing that pops up is the Error 417 Expectation failed message. No chance of checking for patches/updates, etc... no chance of logging in or even seeing the log in page.

She has also called her ISP.... nothing is blocked. Firewalls.. nothing. * throws hands up in the air *
