Default Check your egos at the door

Ran a pug today - first mistake right there. Got some names, won't run with them again. Maybe they squelched me, hope so.

Then some 5 year old, mental age, starts complaining to the 7 yr old that he is not healing enough. I couldn't tell, I was self healing as I always do. Instead of ignoring the 5 y/o, the 7 y/o goes off, I mean screaming into his mike, nice feedback and echo, no clue what he was saying - accent didn't help.

They continued to cry, whine, snot sling and snivel at each other for quite a few minutes. Finally, when the 5 yr old kept it up, I bailed. Too bad, so sad.

I got a few tells, more or less agreeing with me for bailing. One guy said he got enough **** from his kids, this raid was making him crazy(er).

If I wanted to listen to screaming crying whining kids I could go to a day care, not check into a raid for the exact same stuff.

But Khyber and egos go hand-in-hand!

Honestly, the scenario you just described reminds me of public dueling games on Diablo II all those years ago. It's rather sad, but kind of funny at the same time.

Which level range was this, by the way? If it was a somewhat low level quest, then I wouldn't worry about people being screeching idiots--most of them tend to quit playing before getting to end-game content.

that has nothing to do with ego's.... you should research for the correct word then come back when you find it.

You are always so encouraging. I remember when we levelled together how encouraging you were -- for the rest of the party to complete the quest. Truy, infi, you DID check your ego at the door and in fact you would often sit down right inside the door to do laundry or some such. Lol.

Egianthold is cool. You might want to come back and pike withus again some time.

Default I've had mixed experiences with young kids.

If they're mostly quiet and competent, I couldn't care less about how old they are. That being said, I also don't take issue with people dropping when the leader is a boy who still sings soprano. Staying in a group led by someone who's been breathing air for less time than I've played DDO requires a measure of faith in the more difficult runs.

There was one run where two pre-adolescents ignored my repeated requests, instruction, and advice in The Crucible. After dragging their stones back to a shrine repeatedly only to be rewarded with verbal abuse, they both acquired places on my /Squelch list and I was no longer willing to carry them.

Lol...when all else fails, correct their grammar. They hate things like that.

Haha! Totally. I can't remember the amount of times I got called g4y (or n00b, etc.) on Battle.net back in the Diablo II days, just because I used proper punctuation and spelling.

On the topic of annoying voices: as an owner and operator of "one of those voices", what's the best strategy to use if/when leading a group? So far I can think of three.

    1. Leave leadership to someone else. This is usually my go-to option, but I'll still talk over mic sometimes. I'm not sure if this affects group performance, or party mates' desire to punch me in the teeth over the Internet.

    2. Stay off the mic entirely. This isn't so good when giving out directions.

    3. Attempt to change/disguise my voice. Somehow. Will backfire I'm sure.

    4. Alcohol/IDGAF.

I used to not worry about this, until one day where I grouped with someone who was goddamn annoying...and sounded EXACTLY like I do when I hear my voice played back on an answering machine or similar recording device. Kind of makes me wonder if I'm also that annoying over mic :\

I am very tolerant of a lot of things, but certain kinds of annoying blabber earns a /squelch.

But then I proceed to play the quest...

Foul language. Insults. constant begging... or just super loud mike and won't stop talking....

    /squelch.

This. I've only squelched one person for making annoying sounds - they were in the penalty box during a Reaver's Fate, and decided to alleviate their boredom by playing their favorite music over their voice channel.

The only time I'd bail from a group is if the leader was being annoying - otherwise, I'd squelch the offenders and inform the leader that I could no longer hear them.

I choose number 4! Seriously, though. Many of us are needlessly self-conscious about our voices. Sometimes the thing that you're self-conscious about is the same thing that someone else may find charming. The things that most people find annoying are loudness and deuche-baggery. Pitch usually doesn't fall into the annoying category.

Silly how many people can use the laundry excuse! it happens all the time :P

And well, I understand the coloquial use of ego here... I don't see why Infi thinks it's wrong...

Maybe OP could express a bit more about the stuff being yelled and then we could see a clearer picture of why he used the word ego... but who cares?

Let him vent his anger and let's see if we can learn something out of this? (besides knowing when to drop off from a bad pug and doing laundry lol)
