    Default Alignment change

Went to use a +5 Heart of Wood, yesterday.

Specifically I was respeccing my pure fighter into a 18/2 fighter monk mix when I hit a fatal snag on the airship "Heart of Wind".

My alignment was chaotic! I couldn't use an alignment change tome because when I clicked on it, it said I need to be in a tavern to use it.

So I used a +5 Heart of wood AND bought an alignment change tome and both pretty much went up in smoke. Ok so I didn't read all the fine print but I've been playing a long time didn't know about this rule.

Can you make these useable in any public instance? I tried to get help but received "working as intended" reply and didn't even get a chance to speak with a GM.

Right, it seems the least they could do is just have the shipped marked as a tavern.

I may be wrong, but I believe they changed this on purpose. People were able to previously use the Alignment change on the ship (long time ago) and were able to do some things that were not intended (having both Barbarian and Monk levels for example).

    Edit:

While it would make it easier to change say Paladin levels to Bard or Barbarian, I would think there would have to be something major done to prevent mixing of those classes instead.

I maybe wrong, but if I remember correctly that is not possible. If you have any levels of paladin (which requires LG) then you can't use an alignment change and therefore can't take bard levels. (Which crushes all my dreams of the monk18/barbarian sprint boosting speedster.)

Well, yes and no. I don't know if when you go in through a reincarnation you keep your inventory, but you could theoretically be a lawful good wizard, buy a chaotic neutral alignment change from the DDo store, reincarnate, take some levels in pally, use the alignment swap, then take some levels of Barb.

With the alignment class swap items, you can only buy swaps that your class(es) can be. So if you were a monk, you could buy Lawful Good or Neutral Good, but if you took a level of Pally with that character, you could buy any because Pally is restricted to Lawful Good.

How about just putting an NPC on the ship that'll let you restart your respec process? Like just give whats-her-name the storyteller NPC an option to say "Wait, thats not how it went...let me start from the beginning."

AFAIK there's no way to get to the ship unless you're already in the respec process (or are a brand new char, same diff), so there's no reason why you couldn't change your mind, and not actually "commit" to a build until you leave the ship.

I know it wouldnt address the OP's original problem, but at least it wouldnt leave you realizing halfway through that you gimped your char by not being able to take levels in a class.

They use to be and there were issues with LR and GR's people getting stuck where they couldnt finish without an ilegal combo so they took away the tavern bit.

Suggest better planning next time use of the character planner or other tools will result in better builds and in the end you will be a happier player.
