    Default Pugging

I'm wondering.. how many people has ever joined one of those groups that says "byoh" and when you click on join you get a response of "link such and such item". I understand byoh as I'm fully capable of healing myself but when you ask for a detail description of my items I start to feel as if you don't deserve my service. It's a game. I'm not going take it that serious when I'm trying to have fun. Unless stated otherwise in rules. But please.. if your gonna ask for me to link you my equipment I would rather read that in the post then join and find out later. Back to my question though.. for those that do join those kind of groups, what are your thoughts?

I don't think the expectation should be that everyone in this game is going to be able to keep tempo with one another or get along. There are some real differences between someone with one character on the first life and someone with multiple characters and/or past lives. I'm not an expert and I'm not saying zero past livers are ineffective. However, occasionally I don't want to slow down or teach and recognize that same thinking.

I think there are some groups that filtering like that makes sense. From experience, if I have an hour or so to knock out a couple of quests and don't want to slow down. So yeah, I've joined groups like you've mentioned. And, sometimes I've been the person to mess up. (like when someone said 'go' that wasn't the leader and I borked the tiles room on the Abbot run) I've been declined, booted, ignored and refused to remain/join a pug. Meh... no worries as it's a game like you say. If 'you' aren't having fun, 'you' aren't doing it right.

    My Two Cents...

Just link them the most useless piece of gear that you happen to be carrying at the moment to confuse them and move on to another group.

I carry a Heroic Deeds that bugged out a while back, for just that type of linking. It took the place of my level 14 +2 bastard sword

From a guy who solo's, I would probably reply with "myddo me if you are that curious".

Then I avoid the decision of whether or not to stay with the group as I would probably be promptly kicked.

I usually just tell them not to accept my invite, and to use my DDo next time, and move on to the next group. I get this a lot during those rare times I actually PUG, LOL.

Yah, I agree with the above.

If it's in the LFM, it's as good as gospel in my book. It's the leader's party, you can join and abide the rules or not.

With that said, I understand that the lfm description is only so long, but in general if they try to impose additional and what would be viewed as unreasonable restrictions/requirements (from anyone that doesn't have a closet full of "Death to BYOH Exclusionists" T-Shirts) not laid out or alluded to in some way in the lfm, they're in the wrong, and you should probably save yourself the pain of that particularly party.

lol exactly why i keep the club of the holy flame. i feel there is no need to audition for a grp. with the exception of certain raids on certain difficulties. you might want the right boots for TOD or a good DR breaker for an elite shroud. but just regular quests any dif..nah.

I would suggest carrying around an eternal wand of cure light wounds for just such an occassion.

Hey, I'm sorry, but I'm tired of having to carry your underprepared character through everything!!

Now, returning to the original topic(so to speak), I don't actually know how useful my thoughts are to you, except possibly as a look from the other side of things.

I don't generally pug or join pugs, but I'm in a fairly large/well established guild, so I have that option. If I do put up an lfm for some reason, it's generally because I know that whoever is already in the party can complete the quest/raid, and anyone else that joins will be there as filler, or because I'm bored, or to possibly make things go a little bit faster. My lfm's will generally say "In progress, know your way" if I'm in a quest, or just the name if I'm filling up more spots in a raid.

For the most part, if someone that is joining isn't from a guild I'm familiar with (or sometimes from guilds that I'm all too familiar with), you can never tell if the person joining will be be able to contribute at all to the quest other than as a mana sponge. It's a real hit and miss thing. Sometimes you get someone that helps, and sometimes you don't.

I don't screen people through MYDDO or ask to link gear, but I can understand why some people do.

There are some reasons why you would be asked to link an item after joining a quest (I said reasons, I make no claim that they are Good)

    1. Party Leader was burned at least once in a quest were either no one was prepared or they were the only ones prepared to even run that quest at that difficulty.
    2. They had another Party Leader request it from them and it sounds kind of cool to have a perception of power over if someone stays or not.
    3. To make fun of others because their gear is not as Uberz as theirs
    4. They just learned how to use the link feature and like to lock the screen full of Equipment Displays of other peoples stuff to create a Sears catalog look.

I was once asked to link my spell point pots when I joined a raid group on my Cleric... I didn't even say "Goodbye".

i never liked the group leaders that ask you to link stuff, and so i never join those groups. it's usually an approach that's too closed-minded and the group leader thinks there's only 1 strategy that works. i hardly ever join pug groups now but just saying that i would always avoid that kind of group. whenever i put up a group, if i even have to screen, it's mostly a simple "have you done it before or do you know it" kind of thing, but a lot of times i'll just take the first click because i know that even if i have to carry your stone through the entire quest, it will be a fairly smooth run

Lmao. All great post btw. ^^ Kinda surprised of how fast this filled up while I was gone during the day. I guess I should've added that this was for farming Deleras on normal. I wish I did had some tasty ham or a club at that time but sadly I did not. I figured if your going to post a byoh for such an easy farm there shouldn't be any other requirement should there? So I simply just logged off. Wasn't worth my time joining but did enjoy the comments that did come from this.

I usually carry a bracers of assistance, which has saved a party member more than once. It serves as an adequate piece of gear to link before I drop group.
