Forum rep is nothing more than a popularity contest. Reminds me of junior high.

People should have the balls, if they negative rep your post, to also post a reply in the thread admitting to the negative rep and explaining why they gave it to you. Or even make it a requirement if you give out neg or positive rep to fill out a one or two sentence field explaining why you did so and send the feedback via a PM and make sure the feedback is not anonymous.

As you say, it's snarky, but that on its own isn't enough. The guild decay comment is well into the gray and I could see people thinking that is neg rep worthy, although I wouldn't neg rep it.OK so now feel free to Negative Rep me to death and nuke the few reputation points I have managed to get after years and hundreds of posts just because I want the Devs to spend time creating game content instead of dances, and I don't feel that guilds that did not get hit with the recent excessive guild decay should get free renown that they did not work for.
In the end the mods decide, report it if you think its not appropriate. Usually if I get red boxed and I see my comment is snarky (the main reason I seem to get them) I just move on and say "yeah, I could have said that better").
If the minority of posters who have enough rep to hand out negative rep were really using it responsibly we wouldn't be having this discussion.
It seems to me, IMHO, that a better solution would be to remove reputation from the forums altogether, and let the moderators decide what is against the rules based on the reports they receive from the community.

does anyone really care about his forum reputation?
I always try to neg rep myself but it wont let me![]()
Its pretty easy to tell when you post something that most people disagree with even without the rep system. People will generally post well thought out and respectful commentary explaining their disagreement but respecting your right to hold your opinion....ah ha..no seriously, they will at least post that they disagree with you. Sure, a few may neg rep you and not post, but its usually followed by others posting. If anything is going to discourage someone from posting its not the rep system, its the response posts.
That said, I hear if you can get that green bar to be between 8 and 12 dots long chicks will totally dig you. Anything under 4 dots is just giggled at.
. . . You can always disable it. It's not worth posting about because it's utterly unimportant in even the unimportant realm of the DDO forum.
