    Default Forum Reputation

I have been playing this game since beta, and have been posting on the forums since just a few months after launch. I do not post a lot, but when I do post something it is generally relevant and well thought out. And yes, sometimes controversial or contrary to the opinion of many other people, but I thought that the purpose of the forums was to promote constructive discussion (which can lead to constructive tension), and the sharing of ideas and knowledge.

I do not believe that the Forum Reputation system supports the expression of varied opinions. People who post opinions contrary to the crowd get Negative Rep, which may make them afraid to post what they really think another time. The really frustrating thing is that if you don't get enough Positive Rep, or too much Negative Rep, then you can't give any Negative Rep to anyone that you disagree with. How is that fair?

OK so now feel free to Negative Rep me to death and nuke the few reputation points I have managed to get after years and hundreds of posts just because I want the Devs to spend time creating game content instead of dances, and I don't feel that guilds that did not get hit with the recent excessive guild decay should get free renown that they did not work for. What do you care, since I don't have enough Positive Rep to give anyone Negative Rep if you post something that I do not agree with?

Meh, only way to get high rep is by saying boring things that everyone agrees with, or by making an awesome joke.

    Unfortunately, I'm good at neither

I absolutely agree, though I just learn not to judge people by their reputation in the first place. It seems like the only ones that get reputation are people who post (a) cute jokes or (b) strongly worded expressions of some majority opinion. If you're into those kinds of things, I guess you'd have good reason to care about reputation. Otherwise, why worry about it?

For me the judging is often the other way around - oh, this guy has high rep, I probably disagree with him.

    Talking

Its been my experience to not post anything relevant other than in downtime, especially if it is anything that might be controversial. Usually the 1st 10 posts you get are thats a terrible idea, /not signed (who asked for your signature anyways), how about this instead, etc.

There are some good people on this forum, but it is also loaded with trolls, reputation hoards, and tag teamer posters. I just don't get it although, you get absolutely nothing for forum reputation other than a title and as others have mentioned most contributing poters ignore this anyway....so who cares in my opinion.

for me the reputation is the most useless button, thing i should put in MY forum

the real reputation is the /signed or agreement of players

the reputation button is the friendship/haters/cowardry button

in fact, not sure how should i neg you

the funniest part is... one guy posted that forum reputation should give stuff ingame, rofl^period
psykopeta is finally baconpletionist because there isn't anything to delay it more - thelanis, where the gimps claim to be pros and noobs claim to be pros, no newbies allowed(unless they claim to be pros), we have enough drama w/o them. PS: I post only in the latest thread shown in main page, in the weird case u want something from me, feel free to send pm

    This.

Do something funny, post it on the forums and get some rep for being a funny guy. Not a smart guy, wise man or knowledgeable player, a funny guy.

Post some funny screenshots, build a funny character, make a video ...

Forum rep is pointless, it does not matter at all.

Now that said, if you are a super dweeb and want to care about rep, you need to treat it like a game. What I mean is:

    Step 1: Create a persona.
Are you the guy that posts funny pics? The guy that has some sarcastic one-liner and winky face emote for every reply? Maybe you can be the guy that stands up to the meanie elitists? You can be the beta dude that "remembers when" all the time. Or hell, try giving people a digital confectionery -- here, have a twinkie! (¯¯¯¯¯) !

    Step 2: Pick your audience.
It's harder to be an rude ass and still get rep, but it's possible. You need to walk a fine line insulting people but being subtle enough to dodge the mods. It's all about peddling your schtick to the proper audience. Probably safer to choose the PC topics...support newbies, support sharing, support pro-turbine topics, support troops and the war in Iraq, etc. Also, pay special attention who has high rep -- "+1!" them, find out what they like, play politics.

    Step 3: ???
Profit. If you've done it all right, you can put "Hero of the People" on your gravestone. Nothing says winner like a meaningless forum title for an obscure MMO.

I was told that you can report Neg Reputation if you think that was unfair.

In every social setting there are cliques of people who strive for a kind of exclusivity within the already existing community, these 'cool kids' have always existed and always will. Putting a system like reputation into a forums setting is just asking for this sort of thing to happen, although I understand that American culture is already steeped in the 'team US' cheerleading mentality. It's a control thing, an insecure need that people have that makes them feel that by being part of a greater whole, they have some feeling of empowerment when they can apply a sort of peer pressure to others who's opinions impact their sense of security. It's a bullying tool basically, with a score keeping tab.

Some old time forumites say the rep system is useless and not working well. I believe them. Luckily there is an easy way out, dont bother with it. Seriously, I never realized that I can have forum rep until I got a private message about someone kindly apologizing because they gave me negative rep by mistake. I told him no worries, I wouldnt realize that even if it would come by the hundreds...

Its the same with LFMs wanting only toons who are played by girls in real life. Just ignore the concept man, its not like you get anything because of good rep/bad rep/neutral rep.

Forum reputation is rather worthless, yes. You can get positive rep for almost anything at all, and neg rep for the sa,e things. The easiest way to get negrep is by disagreeing, or saying that the game isnt as bad as some claim ti to be. Sometimes you can get negrepsimply for existing, or so it seems. There should be some system to make negrep expensive to give (no,i dont mean tokens of negrep in DDOStore or anything like that, just some way of making certain people wont negrep just to be nasty), otherwise its utterly meaningless.
