    Default Not that I'd ever leave DDO, but...

    Any got any recomendations on MMOs to try during the down time? I would never leave DDO, its still the absolute best model out there, but I wouldn't mind dipping my feet in something else while I wait.

    Games I have tried:
    WoW(wow it was bad... haha)
    Lord of the Rings Online(could not even be bothered to find the exit button, just end-tasked 5 minutes into the game it was that bad).
    EverQuest 1(strobing lights nearly gave me a seizure)
    EverQuest 2(didn't do anything for me)

    And thats it for MMOs.

    I usually hit Kongregate. There's a new Monster's Den I haven't played.
    Ghallanda - now with fewer alts and more ghostbane

    It's nowhere near as good as DDO of course BUT a friend talked me into trying Star Wars The Old Republic and I'm enjoying it so far...

    Republic Commando {Lvl 13}
    Sith Juggernaut {Lvl 14}

    Completely F2P though my friend has provided me with a couple of Little items {Speeders}.

    Having also tried out LotRO and Allods I much prefer SWTOR to either.

    whatever you do, do not try SWTOR.

    Its free to play restrictions are insane, you can only take 2 crafting skills, but to properly craft without needing to buy everything from someone else you need THREE professions.

    You have limited numbers of hotbars (which fill up quickly).

    If you post 3 or 4 messages with in a minute in chat you will be required to wait about 30 seconds to say something again (which is supremely annoying in heavily populated areas, or when dealing with trolls/trolling someone).

    EDIT: And I payed for it for about 6 months before cancelling my subscription, and the other week when DDO Was down for about 3 days I went in to try it, and for about 20 minutes I was enjoying myself.......then I just got really bored (on my level 50 jedi guardian).

    The Professions thing is annoying yes.

    The ONE Hotbar you get as a F2P fills up almost instantaneously - I agree with you here.

    The chat - I haven't even bothered with it so far so this isn't an issue for me.

    I quite agree that the restrictions on f2p in SWTOR are way over the top - However I can honestly say that I have enjoyed the game so far {and have no intention of Subbing up EVER}
    My Spare Cash goes on DDO and will continue to go on DDO!

    Guild Wars 2 isn't bad. I'm not a huge fan but its a good game. Neverwinter Online looks promising. Not gonna be out for another month or so though.

    I've heard good things about guild wars, but I've also heard its very heavily PvP(which, like star wars, I won't go near). PvP is what largely killed WoW for me, they kept nerfing my characters to balance pvp while refusing to add any halfway decent PvE content until I just canceled my subsciption. Bad news for Blizzard, good news for Turbine!(thanks to Turbine's "premium" model I've managed to spend more in a year than I did on 1.5 years of WoW. Would it be cheaper to go VIP? I will never know.)

    GW2 is a lot PvP from what I've seen, which kinda kills it for me - I got a couple characters to 80 then soon found it pretty boring (dungeons feel more obnoxious than anything, getting down-leveled makes lower level areas less fun, etc). I'm much more of a PvE person than PvP, so games that are PvP-centric eventually bore me (which worries me with Elder Scrolls Online - it looks fun, but it seems to be a lot of PvP from what I've seen).

    I haven't found an MMO I like consistently other than DDO, so I tend to play any of Skyrim, AC3, BF3, whatever new steam game I have, or DDO Forums when I'm not playing DDO but want to play a game. >_>

    I worry about that with Elder Scrolls Online as well. I've been looking forward to it ever since it came out, but the more information gets released the more it sounds like its just going to be Dark and Light 2.0

    I hate anything and everything Star Wars, so I won't be touching that one with a ten-foot poll.

    Any other non-star wars related suggestions? lol

    ah didnt see that before I posted my suggestion lol um my best advice for you is shop around there are a ton of mmos out there. Now I am not a fan of it but its still on my pc if you are into super heroes you can give DC universe a try. There is Mortal, Terra, Vanguard I believe are all free but I hated the first person only perspective of Mortal and the world looked too damned cartoonish. I liked Vanguard never reinstalled it after my last pc crashed with it on it though.

    I tried out Vanguard once, it looked interesting, but its Sony so their F2P model is the same as the EverQuests, basically F2P has all sorts of restrictions, Premium removes one or two, but to actually get the full game you have to pay a monthly fee. I might reinstall it, though, just to muck about while the servers are down.

    They actually relaxed some restrictions lately (f2p can now equip blue gear, play all classes etc). Its pretty good game, great crafting. I play it from time to time, have couple of mid level toons. But the thing is, I prefer quest/instance based games to these huge open ended world ones, where I feel I'm wasting my time just running around. Oh yeah, Path of Exile is great, if you are action rpg fan, definitely not a MMO though.

    Ooooh, thats what I like to hear! lol, yes I think I'd be happier with DDO if it just had a better crafting system. I really like crafting for some strange reason, I think its because I get sentimental about my MMO items, and its easier to jusify when I made them myself. Sort of.

    Strobing lights?

    Not that modern EQ1 is all that fantastic (tho back in the day it was top notch), but not sure what you mean by the strobing lights. If you mean particle effects I know all that stuff can be turned down and even off completely.

    I tried out modern EQ1 when it went free to play. I have a particular problem with things that strobe at certain frequncies; about 1 minute into the game I ran into an NPC who's name was strobing(flashing, I guess you could say) at just the wrong frequency. Poured over all the menues looking for a way to turn it off, finally gave up and exited the game.

    Can try Path of Exile. I'm not a fan of Diablo-like games but its Free to Play is impressive in that I almost feel bad for playing the game and hoping they at least make some money.

    I keep doing Hardcore League which isn't super hard but if you die you character gets permanently moved to Default League so I just reroll and go again.

    Build options are pretty insane.

    Ever played any of the older DnD games? Gold box series, Eye of the Beholder series, Neverwinter 1&2, any of the Balders Gate engine games

    Bards Tale is fun too (the real old one and the xbox/ps2 port)
