fighter 12 monk 8

looking to create a Fighter 12 monk 8 build with kensai II but not sure on what race and starting stats. UMD would be good. Thx for the help

I've got something along that line sitting gathering dust. Really seemed like a good idea on paper but really didn't perform well in the game.

What do you think you are getting out of the combo that makes you want to play it?

Some people seem to think this build gives one of the best dps options in game. And other benefits. Just cant work out how to create one. i.e race stats etc.

There is usually a big gap between theory and reality. I thought that it would be a great idea too. But, it just sits.

Problem is that the monk side means no armor so no PRR and the fighter side means a huge loss in monk innates that make monk viable at end game. So, while it looks like it should do lots of damage it really seems to struggle.

At least it did for me.

My experience with it left me feeling that either as a pure class was better.

But focus on your tactical feats.

Stunning Blow and Trip and Improved Trip work really nicely.

I played a lot with a buddy that had a 12Fighter/8MNK. He was a Dwarf (DC enhancements and CON) and used Handwraps and ran around in Fire or Earth Stance. He spammed those feats and was pretty much un-killable and could CC everything (during 20 level cap).

Anyway...Kensai is AWESOME"


My buddy did OK dps. Certainly not what an ESoS or a Khopesh Fighter could do.

But, he had a ton of feats and focused on Crowd Control.

Kensei gives bonuses for DCs.

Power Surge gives bonus STR...which also helps DCs.

Being Dwarf helped DCs.

He ran around spamming both trips...both stuns and sunders.

With 12 Fighter and 8 Monk, you would have a ton of feats.

I agree with Therigar, its not a true "DPS" build.

But it is a great Tactics build (in my opinion).

One thing about the PRR.

My experience with this toon was before PRR. It was also at level 20 cap. So he avoided damage by CCing stuff and killing it.

He avoided magical damage by being a dwarf (bonus saves) and evasion.

He also rotated stances. Often in fire stance while wearing Jidz Teka (+25% healing amp).

He'd swap to Earth Stance when it was called for also.

He would even occasionally use Wind and Ocean stance.

Anyway, different stances for different situations.

I think it can be a super-viable build.

GMoF is a nice ED, but I think Fury and LD would work too.

PS...make sure you have Overwhelming Criticle.

I played a 12 Fighter/8 Monk (aka "Godhand" build) for almost a year. It was solid before U14. With epic destinies, changes to weapon damage and the changes to tanking, IMO it's suboptimal.

If you're looking for an unarmed build, I'd start with 12 Monk/6 Fighter/2 Paladin or 12 Monk/6 Paladin/2 Fighter as the baseline and deviate from there. On paper I think the 6 Paladin version is stronger for self healing when combined with Rejuvenation Cocoon, Empower Heal Spell feat, 40 Devotion enhancements and 80+ Devotion item.

Personally I've given up trying to make unarmed work with the numerous bugs and TR'd into a monkcher (which has it's own brand of bugs).
