    Default Build for Rogue Assassin/Trapper/Monk

The idea of the build is to have an Assassin having really good abilities to disarm traps & open locks.
I have let the "Rogue Assassin III" to replace it by 3 levels of Monks, more fun to play (Stances & Finishing Moves) and giving me some additional feats.

It's 28Pts characters because it will be my first one on a specific server.
A lot of tomes are referenced here but only one 1 is really required (DEX +1) for the selected feats.

    Here you are the build:

Might I suggest either taking more or less monk?

If not going for assassin III there is a lot to say for dipping a little deeper.

Typical splits for rog / monks include rog 19 / monk 1, rog 18 / monk 2, rog 13 / monk 6 or 7, and rog 8 / monk 12. As Narfle indicates, trading Assassin III for dark monk finishers is less than ideal.

Here you are the trade that I do:

    18th +13/+13/+18/+23 +6 +11 +6 Trap Sense +6
    19th +14/+14/+19/+24 +6 +11 +6 Sneak Attack +10d6, Special Ability
    20th +15/+15/+20/+25 +6 +12 +6

    - The level 20th can be removed without any problem (except capstone)
    - Without the 19th I lost 1d6 for my sneak attacks ... i can accept it.
For the Special Ability is more hot but let's me analyze the situation:
    Crippling Strike (already selected)
    Defensive Roll (useless)
    Improved Evasion (already selected)
    Opportunist (already selected)
Skill Mastery (I can live without it if I consider that my chararacter isn't a true rogue)
Slippery Mind (a second poor will save vs enchantment ... near useless)
By the way no major feat missing.

Concerning the Rogue Assassin III: an additional +1d6 sneak attack damage (for a total of +3d6), +2 bonus to Bluff, Hide, Move Silently and Fortitude saves against poison. Any sneak attack that also counts as a vorpal strike (natural 20 followed by critical confirmation) will kill most living targets.

    AP Cost: 2 Level: 18 Progression: 66
    Requires:
Rogue Sneak Attack Accuracy IV, (current build have already it)
Rogue Sneak Attack Training IV, (current build have already it)
    Rogue Assassin II

Then It's easy to take it. You have a point.
The idea could be to trade off lvl3 monk for lvl18 rogue.

Here you are in details this lvl3 monk:
    2nd +1/+1/+6 +3 +3 +3 Armor Class Bonus, Evasion, Meditation, Martial Arts Feat 1d6 +3 4% +0%
    3rd +2/+2/+7 +3 +3 +3 Still Mind, Fast Movement, Philosophy 1d6 +3 4% +5%

The increase of the saves is the same in the two configurations (rogue or monk). Not a decision element.

    The monk feats:
Still Mind: +2 bonus on saving throws against enchantments. Not essential.
Fast Movement: Always good to take.

Philosophy: five new Finishing Moves. I love it BUT ...
If I consider Path of Inevitable Dominion 4/5 moves have a save ... not so good at the end.
The only move interresting is Karmic Strike (This attack is guaranteed to produce critical threat if it hits.
Using this finisher also costs the user 20 hit points, which cannot be reduced by effects such as Damage Resistance). This last move is nice, dangerous but nice.

At the other side the Path of Harmonious Balance has also 5 finishing moves:
Healing Ki: a little heal (2d4) but always good to take
    - Aligning the Heavens,: Reduces the spell point costs of all nearby allies by 25% for 60 seconds.
    - Grasp the Earth Dragon: Gives immunity to daze, stun and sleep effects on nearby allies for 60 seconds.
    - Dance of Clouds,: Provides a Blur-like 20% concealment for 60 seconds.
    - Walk of the Sun: Nearby allies receive an untyped +2 bonus to saves, attacks and skills for 60 seconds.

=> all those finishing moves are nice and not depending of my poor WIS. Good news! For my part I think that I can replace Dark path by the Light path without hesitation.

Of course Rogue Assassin III is good also but only usefull if I confirm a critical hit during sneak attack.

    The two options seems viable.

Confirming Crits was never an issue in the last few years.

When I am speaking about confirm a crit I include also HAVE a crit. Of course my character is a little optimized to do that but the lvl3 monk provide to me a lot of fun to play also.
