Default installing game without downgrading net framework?

Hey all, I've finally convinced my GF to play this game with me.
I bought her a top of the line $1500 laptop with more than sufficient ram and gpu to run the game on highest settings....

The game tells her that her net framework is not compatible with the game's requirements of 1.1. ( she has framework 4.5 installed ).

My gf won't downgrade framework to 1.1, she says turbine should upgrade their version of microsoft's framwork to match current technology...

either way i'm not getting her to run ddo on her brand new windows 8 64 bit laptop without figuring a workaround to install without downgrading framework....

    thx in advance

Having .net framework of 4.5 does NOT give you 1.1 you won't be downgrading you will have both.

The computer i'm on right now which is not the one i play ddo on runs windows xp. It has Net Framework 1.1 installed, but it also has service packs for versions 2.0, 3.0. and 3.5 on it. I remember having to install some version of net framework to run a video editor i had installed. Are those service packs the equivalent of those versions?

    Technobabble marketing spiel:

The major design consideration with the .net framework was in "avoiding DLL Hell" and all the upgrading and downgrading. Thus the different assemblies run in "WinSxS", Windows-Side-by-Side.

So, install them both, they just eat up hard drive space and don't step on one another.

The DDO installation on your Windows 8 system should have given you the option to install the missing .NET framework 1.1. It wouldn't have downgraded your existing frameworks.

I was being equally sarcastic as I was being serious. You want to use an unproven OS to game with? You are going to have to take the time on your own to make it backward compatible. Until then you have a high end.... email and cat video watching machine.

griffin and dredre you guys are incorrect.

it DOES give you the option of installing framework 1.1 when you install the game, HOWEVER, it says you have a newer version of framework and won't allow us to downgrade.

also when manually downloading net framework 1.1 it says the same thing about not being able to downgrade..

we have tried 6 times to revert to 1.1 or install standalone 1.1

Its not a matter of "reverting". You can download .Net 1.1 and its 1.1 Hotfix and they completely coexist safely with other .Net framework files with different numbers. (notice I did not use the word versions because 1.1 and the others are not really true "versions" for this purpose.)

I don't have a link handy, perhaps you aren't using the best link. If I can't locate it quickly can someone else reading this post good links?

    Thanks.

    1.1 framework:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ils.aspx?id=26

You should be able to install this even with 4.5 or whatever installed. Current
.NET apps will still run just fine, the 1.1 and modern frameworks can live side
    by side without issues.

You're doing it wrong. Distinct .NET frameworks coexist with zero issue. Right now I have versions 1.1, 2.0, 3.5 and 4.5 installed side by side. It's as simple as downloading it off MS's website.

No, you're doing something wrong. You do NOT need to downgrade anything. If you're trying to downgrade your frameworks, then you're definitely doing it wrong.

I already installed a fresh DDO on a clean Windows 8 Pro build, so I know how easy this process is. During the installation, it will check if you have the necessary frameworks and will give you an option to download and install them. All you have to do is choose the option that will download and install them. At this point, you must be choosing the wrong option. It's really simple and it's a very smooth process.
