    Default Hmmmmmmm

So I was playing the nwo beta this weekend. (not really that impressed by it) But one thing did make me laugh, I'm sitting there taking a break and eating some pizza and I see a toon named Axer run by. It gets better, about thirty minutes later I get passed by a toon named Cordovan. (Not saying these are the same people but if it was Cordovan =P)

My impression of the game is that will appeal to a completely different type of person. Neverwinter will never appeal to the people that have grinded out many past lives and alot of good gear - it's not that kind of game.

DDO has better character customization, a huge amount of gear to farm for and is highly achievement focused. The people that play 20+ hours per week and very serious about the game would likely get bored of neverwinter.

It will defintely appeal more to my face-to-face gaming group that has families, good jobs, and other hobbies besides MMOs. The lack of things to grind for is a +, the limited character customization means less chance to mess up their character which is a +. If a party doesn't have a rogue or cleric they can still do just fine which is a + for my group. The foundry is one of the biggest plus of all for my group because it allows you to create content and custom adventures for your friends. I get the impression the game is very solo-friendly as well although I played it with a face-to-face friend.

What is a + for one person is a negative for another. I would think very few people that have multiple capped toons in DDO would switch to Neverwinter. As for the more casual player, it all depends on what they are looking for in a game. As always, an MMO is ultimately about the people you play with more than anything else than the mechanics, just like P&P role-playing.

Hopefully there is plenty of people interested in a D&D MMO so both games continue to do well and thrive.

Ummmmmm, hate to tell you, but it only makes sense for the devs to check out the "possible" competition. I checked out some of the clips of beta testing on YouTube. SO very not impressed.

Yeah that was one of my thoughts, still laughed seeing a toon named Cordovan run past me. It'd be cool if he reads and lets us know if it was him but we'll probably never know for sure for various reasons.

I think eventually nwo will probably have something at endgame for powergamers to do. My issues were more the 4e stats powers. (It was my first experience in the 4e system what's so ever) And the fact that it's in FR which to me is generic fantasy land. I much prefer different settings to FR.

Overall I do agree with you though that it's players that make the mmo though. Unless the majority of my guild leaves for nwo I probably won't leave ddo even though the one gamebreaking bug I encountered in the beta was fixed before the weekend was over while ddo still suffers from it's version of the bug after two years or more.

NWO is at the same stage DDO was when it released. No endgame, but it is in the works.

The people who wil be interested in NWO will be those who appreciate forced cooperation and character oriented balance. The players who will like DDO over NWO are those who favor character building and customization options.

Does Cordovan run with his name public in DDO?

If not, do you think he would do any differently on another Game?

I find it just as and possibly more likely someone else simply jacked the names. I see that often enough to think it's a reasonable explanation.

I would imagine if he went to another game, he would Rez Mockduck.

I might poke my head in NWO, but I play games for the story. I'm not really into FR lore, I like Eberron.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

    It's of course very possible.
