    Default Game stuck at "Connecting"

Hello there! I have been playing DDO off and on since 2008. I recently downloaded the high-res client and installed it. For some reason the client sits there at "Connecting" eventually times out, retries, etc. It's been doing this for 2 days now, so I'm pretty sure there's not a down time. I also have opened Internet Explorer and am able to browse to turbine.com and can even login to my account. I also checked my proxy settings which are blank (as they should be).

I also did an uninstall, reboot, reinstall and get the same thing. I've also tried running the launcher as administrator, no luck.

I'm running Windows 7. This is the same system I was running DDO on before and it was fine.

    Thoughts?

My first thought would be "firewall". Most firewall apps record some binary hash information of whatever executables are set to "safe" to ensure nothing changes them without knowing. Having recently switched out your game to the Hi-Res version, that may be the problem.

    Best of luck!

Did you download from ddo.com or from steam? I have the same issue, still haven't actually resolved it myself. Saw a post from someone else with this problem, and they got the game to work by downloading and installing through ddo.com, instead of steam, which is where I installed from. Currently installing TERA, so I can't try that myself yet, but it might help you if you installed from steam.

Hmm, well, I turned off the Windows Firewall, still no luck. I don't have a hardware one, just a standard Linksys WRT NAT.

Could there be something hiding in my AppData folder or something that I need to delete?

Well, that was my best guess.

Usually when there's an issue with the AppData files an XML exception is thrown on launch. I *think* you can delete those files and they'll be rebuilt. At the worst you're not any more hosed than you are now.

    Hummmm....

shadereaper33 suggested a Steam vs. DDO issue. Could be. I can't say as I don't have both. I was under the impression Steam was simply a delivery mechanism. After instillation, the regular TurbineLaucher/Connect/Update/DDOClient sequence took over. Who knows? Steam can do some strange things.

    Uh....

Could the .Net 1.1 libraries have been hosed when you installed the Hi-Rez version? It shouldn't hurt anything to re-install that for testing purposes. The "latest" version is found here. I'd use Windows Update to install the 1.1 hotfix.

    I'll keep looking and thinking.

    Best of luck!

You aren't the only one having this issue - I've spent half the day trying to get my friends' laptop up and running, and it's just hanging on connecting as well.

I had this same issue a long time ago, and I swear I found the fix somewhere and it had to do with IE.

Try clearing all browsing data in IE, and then do this:

Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings > and uncheck proxy server. That might fix it, if it's checked.

Indeed you are not the only ones with this problem.

DDO used to run fine on my sons Win7 PC and yesterday when we started it up (after many months of not playing) the launcher stuck at connecting. We have reinstalled both DDO and .Net and the issue persists.

This is not a Steam install either, it was from a DDO downloaded install which is the same that runs fine on my Win7 PC.

I think we could do with some advice and/or technical help from Turbine on this problem now, we were hoping to buy some Store points, but clearly can't.

So I resolved my issue, it was mentioned in another thread, I'll repost here though.

Looks like something is wrong with the high-res client download. Soon as I used the standard res client download it worked perfectly.
