    Question Prismatic Ray/Spray

I somewhere got it into my head that Prismatic Ray/Spray were boosted by Force line Enhancements/Items, but now I can't find anything to support that notion. Are they or aren't they?

Wiki only mentions the energy typed rays being able to boost the potential of the spell, but doesn't mention whether banishment or being turned to stone are untyped damage that fit the bill for Force Enhancements (I assume being feared doesn't count as damage unless you take into account all the mobs the feared one will bring back to you... and that damage is on you ).

EDIT: An entry in the Compendium mentions force being enhanced in an example given, but the wiki entry seems to have been edited from that initial write-up.

You might be thinking of Prismatic Strike, which is an Arti spell that has sonic, force, fire which is definitely boosted by force line.

Hmmm.. the note I wrote about what spells are affected by force was written around U9 in March of 2011. When were arti's introduced?

U11. It seems to me that if you are talking about prismatic ray/spray, then they would also be enhanced by force line but only if that's what you want for other spells since it takes the highest enhancement no matter which of the damaging lines you take. If fire is higher for example, it will take fire's enhancement as the modifier.

Edit: I'm glad you brought this up because it made me do more research, i usually skip this spell but 2 out of 7 potential ray/spray cause death effect ignoring death immunity, that's pretty sweet. Coupled with taking the highest dmg line as a modifier for 3 other potential rays, that is teh awesome.

Yuppers! It is a relatively cheap sometimes-insta-kill spell with no SR. I just didn't know if poison, banishment or flesh to stone count as untyped damage. The Banishment spell seems to qualify, but this is a special type of banishment particular to these two spells.

    Thank you.

That's interesting and noted for future reference, but my other question about whether Force Enhancement lines boosts these two spells still remains. It seems doubtful, but I got the idea somewhere because they are written down with all the other spells that benefited from Force lines in the U9 spell pass (Disintegrate, Ice Storm, Cyclonic Blast, Horrid Wilting and Meteor Swarm), even though those were not specifically noted in the release notes. Somebody told me this and I can't find where that was.

Prismatic spells are effected by whatever spell power/crit chance/crit damage is highest. For example, if you have a 90 spell power in acid, a 40 in electric, your prismatic gets the 90 spell power total, regardless of what effect the spell triggers. If you have enhancements for 6% fire crit and an item for 3 % ice crit, it will get the 6% from your enhancement, AND the 3% from the ITEM for a total of 9%, but would not get a 6% fire+ a 3% ice if they were both enhancements. In short it finds your highest values of enhancements/item and then adds those together. The banish effect, the poison effect, and the stone effect are not considered damage of ANT type and do not benefit from anything besides evocation focuses to up DC. These effects deal NO dmg regardless of anything, they either kill/kill/stone or they do nothing. They have no SR roll, they are not effected by regular death immunity (the poison is stopped by poison immunity not death immunity) and they cannot kill red names, but can kill miniboss mobs. Because of the no SR roll they work extremely well in epic level content with drow and other high SR mobs. The banish effect will kill ANY type of mob, regardless of their strength/immunity/race/class or ANY other factor as long as they are not a red name OR raid boss. The poison will effect anything that does not have poison immunity, resistance to poison does nothing against it. The stone effect will effect ANY mob, including skeletons/clay golems or any other mob not usually effected by the flesh to stone spell. It is in my opinion very satisfying to turn a very very hard to kill mob into a statue for 24 seconds, effectively making it a sure kill, since nothing lives 24 seconds if it isnt moving/healing/attacking, unless you want it to. Even better is instantly killing a mob that your group might take a full minute to beat down on epic elite.
As Memnic said :Yes it's random... but randomly awesome.
I love Prismatic Spray... the spell is just pure, distilled coolness

I know that is how it used to work, but i seem to remember realease notes stating that this had changed.

    from personal observations -

    on an air savant

if i get lightning damage, it crits a whole lot more then anything else. also i get a lot of damage (600 to 900) on a crit

and maybe 300-400 on fire where i have little to no sp in.

    just my 2 cents
