Pug groups, they always amaze me in some way!

I'll paraphrase something i said in another of these loot threads. It just seems to me the general thinking is that if anyone but me wants an item they are greedy. Only i 'need' the item. The others just want it. This is what these loot threads always seem to come down to from my view.

If someone could please explain the difference between needing and wanting in a videogame? What happens if you don't get an item you 'need'? Does your character auto-delete?
