    Default Request 19monk / 1 rogue builds

Hello everyone, I have seen this builds all around might even have a name, but somehow I am unable to find it in the forums (must have low search-fu today )

Is for my personal weird rogue completionist project, so basic rule is competitive trap removal and full UMD.

Can someone tell me where to find a build like this?

I've seen a lot of 19rogue 1 monk builds, but not 19 monk 1 rogue builds, which one do you want?

Is empty body so dear to you that you don't want to do a deeper splash, say, 18monk/1rog/1druid?
What do you think of deeper splashes, such as 12 Monk/7/1?

Should one plan it as a build which goes to level 18 (or 19), and then TR immediately?

19 monk / 1 rogue, basicaly making my monk life, having at least 1 rogue level is mandatory for my rogue-mind religion :-) but like monk class a lot too so I would like to enjoy its features as much as possible.

but yup, maybe the opposite 19rogue/1monk is more common, but not what I want at least by now

So... what do you have available in terms of races, build points, past lives, tomes, etc?

drow and h-orc races, all classes except druid, 36 Pt build, past lives: 2 rogue, 1 fighter, 1 barb, 1 ranger, 1 bard, tomes: +3 on all abilities, +4 on STR, also being rogue-friendly I tend to do balanced spread of points between all abilities.

That's it, about splashes well if I couldn't by any means then not sure, maybe some tempest I ranger, and about 18-19 nope, think I'll want to enjoy it longer for some epic content ... yeah, probably revisit GH

I vote dark monk 12 / rog 8; still gets you Ninja II, ToD, and third-tier stances; but extra rog lvls mean more skill pts, more sneak atk, W&S Mastery, and Imp Uncanny Dodge.

If you only do 1 level I would go Arti, the +2 scroll UMD is really nice & the +1 level as well if more then probably not.

I would suggest 12/monk 7/fighter 1/rogue(as you prefer rogue over arti)

With the build you get 3rd level stances(Master of xxxx) and abundant step(touch of death as well)
You grab kensei for additional damage and rogue for trap skills.

    Stats:

    Half-Orc

    Str: 16
    Dex: 12
    Con: 16
    Int: 10
    Wisdom: 14
    Cha: 12

12monk/7 rogue/1 wiz might make for a self sufficient dark halfling with plenty of sneak damage.
(uses 3 feats for Dragonmark of healing though) (Use the wiz feat for maximize to boost the Dragonmarks)

12 monk/7 rogue/1 fighter gives you assassin I, Ninja II, and some nice sneak damage.
(3d6 from Ninja II, 1d6 from Assassin I, +4d6 from Rogue levels.

The 8th level of rogue gets you improved uncanny dodge, a fighter level gives you a bonus feat. Take your pick.

Halfing offers the option of healing dragonmarks, bonus saves, bonus sneak attack and damage (up to +8 damage +4 attack)

A Dark monk with 1 level of Rogue would also work, but has less sneak attack damage.

you will probably want 12-14 int with a build using few rogue levels.

    Best of luck,

Oh well, here is what I have been able to put together, I guess my confusion on how finishing moves, stances and anything related to monks works is obvious, most probably would have done some mistakes, criticism welcome but but but ... be soft

Around lvl15 would swap past life barb for toughness for the extra 3 HPs, also in doubt if last feat should swap lightning reflexes for another toughness, I like saving reflex much more having evasion

About skills, life after life of rogue I have a good stack of pretty useful items from cannith crafting +10 skill at ml5 and so on, so I hope this will compensate for the lack of top values.

Interesting idea: you lose out on Imp Uncanny Dodge and W&S Mastery III from rog 8, but Max+Emp+Least/Lesser DMs allow for a fair bit of self-healing. Feat-wise it's tight but should be doable: 7 base + 3 monk + 1 wiz + 2 epic = 13 total. That enough for Toughness (or barb PL), Stunning Fist, Dodge (Ninja pre-req), TWF x3, DMs x3, Max+Emp, and (pick 2) IC:Blunt, Imp Martial Arts, or Vorpal Strikes.

Apart from the fact that the particular class split doesn't seem to be a sound decision, there are some things which I find odd:

Why Lawful Good? Lawful Neutral will probably make you take less damage from certain archers.
Your Str is 3 points behind your Dex. With Rage, you might have the same attack bonus. With Primal Scream, your Str will be higher than your Dex. Finesse is not needed in your build.
Why is your Int so high? Have you considered dropping Spot? Have you considered splashing more rogue levels to make capping skills easier?

Your skill raises are all over the place. I'd plan my build in a way which achieves maxed ranks in those skills which are important to you. Putting points in Jump and Balance if your want to be able to disable traps is an unwise decision.

    Why 10k Stars?
Why Touch of Death as late as level 12?
    Why Lightning Reflexes?

There are many differences between Sorcs and Monks. One of them is that Sorcs are fine if they rely on two attributes: Charisma and Constitution. Once these are maxed, or have the desired value, you can do with your stat points whatever you like. Monks however, need Str for damage, Dex for the TWF chain, Con for HP, Wis for AC and some DCs. If you splash rogue, getting some Int helps with the skill points, and Cha helps your UMD.

That's the reason why you should not be surprised - your Sorc is much less dependant on multiple attributes.

well yup, the rogue splash is probably not a popular option but I am trying to do completionist with always at least a rogue level, I like rogue, that's all about it

Lawful good was mostly from an old-time-use-pure-good-weapons, I guess it doesn't makes much sense now with Cannith crafting so yep, will probably change that, Finesse is oh well guess also some rogue-like bad habit, obsession with hitroll, thou yup maybe in the long run it doesn't makes much sense.

About more rogue levels, I would really like but also want to be as monk as possible, is a new class to me, skills are placed so I can be trapping all levels and some balance, oh well I like balance too, also lightning reflexes is all about being rogue.

Why 10k stars?, why Touch of Death as late? well this is why I asked critics, I don't really know the class, guess I'll have to rework this

    Thanks for the inputs

I'm not the best person to ask for Monk advice, but I encourage you to have a look at http://ddowiki.com/page/Monk and the linked enhancement page to see what you are going to miss if you are taking deeper splashes than just 19/1. Several people in this thread have stated that 12 Monk seems to be a good stopping point, but just see for yourself.
