DDO installer files

So does anyone know if there's a way to get a hold of the dat/setup files for DDO without having to pull them in with Pando?

I can't find the install files anywhere on my system, I guess they must autodelete after pando has done it's thing. But having to download 7GB of data with a further 4GB of patches every time I need to reinstall is unfun on a 2mbps connection. But if I could get a head start by just having the 7GB of stuff pando pulls down before initial install that would at least something.

So are they available via a direct link or something somewhere? Anyone?

AFAIK, the installation files are only available from Turbine with Pando or through a Steam account. I generally archive the full install to another disk/location or flash drive after downloading in case I need or want to install again. Saves a boat load of time.

EDIT:
One way around a re-install is to copy an existing installation. If you have or can get to a box with DDO on it, simply copy the entire "Program Files[(x86)]\Turbine\DDO Unlimited" directory to a portable medium then copy that to the same place on another box.

I have actually tried that before (and again this time) - I think win7 (at least my installation of it) must put some kind of user rights access control on the files, if I transfer them to another machine and run the launcher, it fails after putting in username & password and reports that it is unable to modify the data files.

It's entirely possible that I've turned on some long-forgotten setting in windows 7 on my main machine to make it more secure, but if so for the life of me I don't know what. Either way, it don't work. It's also a PITA for some reason: a straight forward copy/paste across the network ALWAYS fails on one or other of the large (1GB+) files. setting up an FTP share seems the only reliable way for me to get it across the homegroup. Bizarre.

I'll just have to let it do the download again and make a copy before i tell it to go ahead and install.

What's really going to annoy you is they are often very behind in updating the installer so sometimes it then has to download many patches/updates worth of content after its done installing

Before you spend the time...

What you're describing is usually a permissions issue. Make sure you're logged in as an admin when you do the copy. After it's done, you've got two choices; 1. Turn off UAC which will probably make it work but you'd better know anything you're running from then on is safe or 2. Take ownership of the "DDO Unlimited" directory with full rights. That link has a script that makes it easy.

I usually take option 1, but I have other means of keeping my system safe. You may want to try option 2 first as it has less inherent risk.

Thanks but that didn't solve the problem - I was copying between windows and linux and so it just didn't make a difference at all.

Still. I have now pulled down the 7GB of installer files and saved them off somewhere. Pity that you have to pull in another 4GB before you can play, but its still cut my 'reinstall' time down by half.

wasn't ineffectual old thing: now I know how to take ownership of folders which I didn't know. Learned something (learned many things in the course of failure on this one...), so wasn't a waste of time at all.
