Default TR or first life advice

I have a first life wizard that I am planning on TRing. I haven't played a sorc yet and would like to. I could TR the wizard into a sorc or I could make a first life sorc. How beneficial is having a wizard past life to a sorc? I can tell that a wizard would benefit a lot from the +1 DC and bonus to spell pen. If I don't TR the wizard into a sorc, it'll be into a wizard. Thoughts?

    Cheers,
    Sylvan

A wizard past life can definitely benefit a sorc

Firstly, the active feat for +1 DC is beneficial, because fewer mobs will be evading your nuke spells

Secondly, Sorcs can CC, though not quite as well as wizards.

Thirdly, the +2 spell penn is really helpful for:
Otto's irresistable and Power Word Kill
These have no save, but do have a spell penn check (Sorcs shouldn't be short on spell penn compared to a non-elf wizard)

Obviously, the wizard past life feat would be more beneficial to a wizard.

Having a wizard past life is excellent for any build that casts offensive spells.

Sorc is really not that different from wizard. Although I ordinarily recommend against TRing into a build you haven't tried yet, I would go ahead and take a second life as a sorc. Just don't go fleshy.

For what it's worth, I TRed my PM wiz into a fleshy cold sorc (I broke the rulez!) and loved it. There are some differences between Wiz & Sorc, but enough similarities that it was a pretty smooth transition. And having the past life benefits from Wiz was very nice. In fact... I just TRed my Sorc into a wiz again to pick up another +2 spell pen

With the exception of your int gear, a lot of the items will transfer nicely as well.
