Default Game Crash As Soon As I Load In

Recently, the first time I log on every day, the game crashes as my character is loading. I try logging on again, and the game works fine. This has only happened recently after I took a few weeks off from the game.

Step one: Log in to DDO, select Orien server.

    Step two: Select character.

Step three: Once I see my character and the game environment, a red symbol pops up and a few seconds later the game crashes.

Edit: Step four: Lose connection with the server.

Also, I usually log on my level 24 (now 25) monk, and I am usually loading into either Eveningstar or the Marketplace.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea why it's happening?

You are spending too much time loading in. During such time the server does not get responses back from the client, nor is any reconnect attempted. Connection time out, kick.

    Solutions:
    1. You get an SSD for your game to speed up your load times. This way you don't lose sync with the server so easily.

    2. Turbine changes their communication protocol to have a heartbeat signal with communication to not lose sync and be able to re connect when connection gets re established.

Thank you for your response. Now, what's an SSD?

Solid State Disk. A no moving part hard drive that is really fast. SSD is the only sort of drive I'd stick in a laptop. Also, if you get one, don't defrag it. It works different than mechanical platter drives you are used to.

I was getting this literally every single time I tried to log into the game and it started happening during epic levels... and it has not happened a single time after I TR. It has not happened on any other characters.

What Misssing Minds explained makes a lot of sense to me (I'm not techy) but I wonder if this is somehow related to epic levels?

I get this 99% of the time mainly after I reboot computer

Your pc is loading the game for the first time. After that the OS keeps a recollection of what it has touched before in cache. It uses this cache to speed up the loading processes.
