    Default Old items?

What happens to old items when U17 comes out?

Do they change to the new stats?
Or will they stay the same?

According to the devs the old items will stay the same. IE:if you have an old Cloudburst and want the new updated version then you need to farm the new version.
    ... a soldier,
Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
    Seeking the bubble reputation,
    Even in the dragon's mouth.

To add to this: Epic Items will need to be put through a new ritual with some dragonshards to change the augment slot to the new system, as they are going to be discontinuing the old Epic Augment system.

From what I saw, some things will update, such as damage dice, but other things, such as augment slots, will not.

The Lama Release notes seem to be backed up with players experience:

    • The majority of these item changes are not retroactive to existing items.
    • Some aspects of the changes, such as buffs to weapon damage dice, critical profiles, or an armor's base AC will be retroactive to your existing items. However, added augment slots or other changed effects on an item are not retroactive.
    • To get the complete, updated version of an item, you will need to find a new copy of that item.
    • The bound/unbound state of items already in your possession will not be altered.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

    That sounds a bit dodgy.
Many of the updated items have higher minimum levels.
It would really suck if the old items got the higher minimum level, but no improvement.

Generally I find buffs aren't retroactive, however nerfs are retroactive.

Except of course that isn't the case here
