    Default First Attempt

Hey all, this is my first attempt at playing a barb. Let me know if I'm making any mistakes here. I went with the rogue because I like to be able to do traps without waiting around for someone else, and took the second level 'cause I figured I might as well get evasion while I'm at it. Thanks for any input in advance.

Might want to shift some pts from INT to DEX to beef up your Reflex saves a bit; Evasion w/out good Reflex is pointless. I like to max out Extend & Extra Rage enhs to get as much mileage outta Rage as possible.

Yeah on the dex thing w/r/t evasion - you need to aim for reflex saves around 30+ pre-cap and even more in epic levels. Also evasion only works in light armor so you will be restricting yourself from some very good barb armor while levelling (deneith chain for example) and some PRR when at cap.

As for AP spending - take Human versatility I instead of rogue skill boost I. Human gives you more options AND you can use rogue haste and human damage at the same time....just watch you boost counts so you have enough to deal with traps as needed.

Note pure barbs can survive most traps anyway and in quests where you can't you may have trouble getting to the trap box anyway with out improved evasion and really good saves.......so maybe you can survive without rogue levels at all - splash fighter for more feats (stun/improved trip ??) or stay pure for the capstone which is decent.

Thanks for the replies so far!

My question now is: is evasion worth getting? Or would it be better to go 19/1 or 18/1/1 with a level of fighter for the extra feat?

I know I don't have to be able to get traps, but it's something I enjoy. And I have an arti, so I know while I won't be able to get to every box, I'll be able to get many of them even without evasion. Thanks again in advance for any advice.

Evasion is a nice to have especially in epic levels - the balance for barbs is they have the HP to survive most of what evasion helps evasion characters survive. Also for getting through traps don't forget that barbs get Improved Uncanny Dodge which can boost your saves for getting through traps. Not quite the same as evasion but it generally solves traps for Barbs and short fights with casters.

So in the end it's a personal choice for you. I personally like it but the Barb capstone is actually pretty good as well.

    Really you balance this:

Trap Sense (passive): Trap sense bonus improves to +6 - +1 Trap saves
Damage Reduction (passive): Damage reduction improves to 7/- +1DR
Improved Uncanny Dodge 6/day (passive and active): - +1 use
Mighty Rage (passive): Upon reaching level 20, a barbarian's rage grows stronger. When raging, your base bonus to Strength and Constitution are increased to +8 and your morale bonus to Will saves is increased to +4. +2 to each stat/+1 to will save when raging
Rage (active): You can now rage 6 times per rest. +1 use
    Capstone - +2 strength +10% glancing blows +5% procs

This adds up to about 2.21 dmg per swing you lose. To get evasion and moderate trapping ability.
